Fish of the Day 29 - I got that zebra eel in me!

Today's fish of the day is the lovely zebra moray! (The eel in my profile picture!)

(Also sorry for not posting these blogs for a little bit,,, i didn't have alot of motivation!!)

Zebra moray facts:

- Zebra eels are one of the more docile species of moray. They make great pets from aquariums due to their passiveness!

- Unlike many other species of moray eel, the zebra moray does not have sharp teeth. Instead, their teeth are more blunt, made for crushing shells. Although they have a preference for shellfish, their diet is not limited to shelled creatures; they also endulge in squid and smaller fish.

-In addition to the previous fact... they also have a set of pharyngeal jaws, which are like a smaller set of jaws in their throat. That helps them eat slippery fish!

- One cute fact about these guys is that, during mating season, they'll share dens/holes! (This is actually pretty common among eels.)

- Like most morays, the lovely zebra moray is a mouth breather. So... as always... if it opens it's mouth at you, it's not trying to be aggressive, but you should still keep a safe distance. They still bite, and it'll hurt just as much as any other eel bite despite their flat teeth.

- Most zebra eels are pretty small compared to other morays, but they can grow up to 5 feet. Thats as tall as me!

- Okay, not really a zebra eel fact but rather a fact about me... this is my favourite species of moray eel! I mean just look at this face.. this one, too!

I love these guys.. they look adorable, act adorable, and they also kinda remind me of the sandworm from beetlejuice. Anyway, do you got that zebra eel in you?
