maybe im basic or something but i thought the whole sub genre of alt, emo, scene, punk, goth, or anything under that umbrella kinda was supposed to be accepting and non judging so can someone explain why i see so many people on here calling others posers or weird for wearing something slightly different, for example if someone wears baggy pants while being scene people will call them a poser or some rude names for no reason, its still apart of that genre is it not? as well as making fun of others based on where they get their clothes, (no i dont mean like shein or smth) i mean like why are we bullying someone for getting their clothes from Walmart, target, or amazon? same with people who tend to change their style every other week, i dont think we should maybe shame and bully them for changing styles i feel like people should wear what they want without being called posers or trend hoppers. idk for sure tho maybe i need to read a dictionary. KACHOWWWWWW
why are we being mean

astute observation
the culture was born out of it's 'alternativeness'... i.e., being different. but it's kept up, in part, due to its aesthetic.
some cultures have as much diversity within itself as it has between itself and other cultures. there are cool people. but there are also some people who exist just for the aesthetic or fashion or just to function as social animals... not really remembering values of acceptance and missing the entire point of being alt.
and over time the population shifts towards people who aren't as accepting because the aesthetic is what carries the culture. community changes and then culture changes.
ultimately almost every culture will experience some rot due to the shifting (dare i say regressing) community which maintains that culture.
