Hi! I thought that I might wanna make this into a review page just so I have something to do with my spacehey, so here we are! I just finished the 50th anniversary special "Day of the Doctor," so now is the best time to review it.
This blog covers spoilers the 50th anniversary special "Day of the Doctor"!! You have been Warned!!!
The first thing that I want to do is give a brief synopsis of the episode in case it's been a while since you've see it, or if you, quite unwisely, decided to read without watching first. For shame. River Song would be disappointed
The 11th Doctor (Matt Smith), Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman), Kate Lethbridge-Stewart (Jemma Redgrave), Osgood (Ingrid Oliver), and the rest of UNIT all gather at a stasis chamber of the last day of The Time War. We then cut to The War Doctor (Sir John Hurt) in the last day of the tie war. He steals "The Moment," an ancient Timelord superweapon so advanced that it gained a conscience. It takes the form of the Bad Wolf (Billie Piper), a figure from War's future. The Moment opens a Time window to the Tenth Doctor's (David Tennant) time, which is 1500s England.
The War, 11th, and 10th Doctor then join up and get trapped in the Tower of London. We then cut back to Clara/UNIT time, where they are currently going through an invasion of the Zygons (Aiden Cook & Paul Kasey as actors, Nicholas Briggs on Voice). Zygon!Kate then takes Clara to the Black Archive, a place that not even the Doctor is supposed to know about. They plan to use the contents of the Black Archive to take over earth and claim it for the Zygons, who lost their home planet during the Time War. Clara then steals a Vortex Manipulator (cheap and dirty time travel), to go back to the Doctors. They force the humans and Zygons to reach a peace agreement, before going back to the last day of The Time War.
The War Doctor decides that he has made his choice, and that he will destroy Gallifrey to end the Time War. Clara, who is distraught at the thought of seeing her best friend destroy his people, suggest that he changes his future. 11 then hatches an idea to save Gallifrey. He decides to move Gallifrey and freeze it in a stasis chamber so that the Daleks could destroy themselves. All 13 regenerations of the Doctor (1-12 + War) join to save Gallifrey.
At the end of the episode, The 3 Doctors part ways, and the Doctor meets the Curator, who tells him that the full title of the Painting is "Gallifrey Falls No More." Eleven then goes and meets up with all of his past regenerations.
First and foremost, I just want to start off by saying how much i LOVE that the episode starts off with the First Doctor's intro! it's so insanely nostalgic, that paired with the "foreman" sign makes me SCREAM every time I see it, especially cause i'm such a huge fan of Susan :3
The first spoken words in the episode are uttered by Clara Oswald. "Waste no time arguing on what a good man should be, be one." I like to think, especially because we get our first glimpse at the 12th doctor, Peter Capaldi, in this episode, that it was setting up his story arc for next season.
And oh my god! The title card including Billie Piper!! My Bad Wolf!! Completely unashamed to say that I SCREAMED when I saw that. Honestly I'm tempted to write BadWolf fanfiction because of this episode
I also love to see every time that it's clear that the Doctor is a THIEF!! He stole the TARDIS, he stole The Moment, he steals his companions, lovely! And the late great Sir John Hurt's acting in this episode is simply PHENOMENAL!
What I say next, I am NOT dissing David Tennant. I LOVE David Tennant. That being said, I dislike the 10th Doctor, also, why is there SO MUCH SNOGGING??? We should've followed the rules of no hanky panky of the TARDIS.
Sorry you guys don't understand how HYPEED i was when i saw all of the Doctors together. I think i genuinely screamed when i saw One. AND THE PETER CAPALDI REVEAL!!!!! AUGHHHH!!! they literally have each Doctor i'm gonna cry!!!!
Overall on my scale from Dalek Sewer Sludge to Fish Fingers & Custard, I'm gonna give it an 15/10, the episode was the strongest of Doctor Who I've ever seen, and that's saying something considering series 8 exists. The pacing was fantastic, the use of characters, the moral conflict, guest stars, using all of the Doctors?? This is peak Moffat writing you guys, probably also peak Nuwho (i can't say its peak who because i havn't seen classic). This is your sign to watch the 50th anniversary specials!
Rowan out, Geronimo!!!
