my credentials : all As for both years in hs
obviously, good grades dont define your intelligence or your character. however, they do determine your future, and the outcome of ur life and it will be very difficult to do otherwise!
so here are some tips on how to study, how to organize ur academic life and other tips for getting ur grades and motivation up!
₊˚⊹♡ organization is essential to taking your studying seriously! i recommend writing down things in a planner- it doesnt have to be a normal day by day one with a calendar if that helps but it can just be a blank notebook that you can have with you at school.
₊˚⊹♡ be consistent writing down your homework, tests, due dates, projects, etc! without consistency, you will easily forget to check ur planner or even use it all.
₊˚⊹♡ if you have enough money, buy some cute pens, pencils, erasers or other stationary to motivate you to do your work. also a good reason to spend money ( ˶ˆᗜˆ˵ )!
₊˚⊹♡ try and make time for your tasks, have an allotted place & time to read a assigned chapter, or assign your desk to do history and your dining room table to do math. whichever makes you feel the best & is efficient!
₊˚⊹♡ organize your tasks based on importance! if you have an essay due next week, but a project due in two days, you should prioritize the project. also, dont forget to keep your grades in mind. if you have a B- in English, you might want to start the essay before working on the science project.
₊˚⊹♡ dont write extensive, elaborate essays of notes. it defeats the purpose of sizing down the information in the textbook to something understandable. try and making an outline of the main idea, details, and examples with a timeline/dates.
₊˚⊹♡ listen to music with little instruments/lyrics. these can easily distract you, i reccomend lofi, asmr or ambience, and jazz.
₊˚⊹♡ dont take breaks too often and separate yourself from your devices! the more breaks you take, the longer they become and the less work you do. breaks can also distract you from the topic at hand and make you forget important things. going on your phone can also have the same effect.
₊˚⊹♡ try and ask for help! study with your friend or in groups, find study groups in your school or find a tutor! humans r social creatures, so creating a study group with ur friends is great. but make sure not to be distracted by others!
₊˚⊹♡ DONT CRAM!! do not ever do things last minute, and dont be bold enough to ask for an extension after. it shows disrespect to the teacher and displays that they shouldnt give you any extensions at all. cramming only limits the knowledge you can take in.
₊˚⊹♡ make sure to have some snacks (fruits, drinks, etc) to motivate urself and sit down!
₊˚⊹♡ reward urself after a good grade! dont forget to treat yourself and be kind to yourself. you deserve it! ♡ go buy that bag you were eyeing, or that matcha boba you were contemplating to buy.
₊˚⊹♡ SLEEP! YOU MUST GET 8 HOURS OF SLEEP! sleep helps you retain information, and is essential!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if you are up studying at 3 am, it will most likely make you worn out the next day and forgetful during a exam!
₊˚⊹♡ the pomodoro method : a study method that divides time up for you to study, or take a short break. you can find many pomodoro timers on youtube, and try and follow along! there are different lengths, such as 30 min study and 10 min break, but you can look through youtube to find which one is right for you.
₊˚⊹♡ active recall : a study method that requires you to create questions based off a topic to quiz yourself, then answer those questions. you can do a simpler version of this method by opening a section of a text u need to memorize info from and reading it, then closing the book and trying to remember the information u just read.
₊˚⊹♡ flashcards : you can make flashcards online on knowt and test yourself using the learn feature/test feature! you can also make real flashcards w/important vocab and force ur friend to test u on them!
₊˚⊹♡ feynman technique : a study method where you teach someone else the topic ur studying to try and study the topic and understand it better. you can grab a friend or even use a ai bot (like chat gpt)
₊˚⊹♡ practice tests : you can access practice tests on quizzizz and print them out ! i usually do this for math tests or quizzes!
₊˚⊹♡ do your homework in school. literally dont waste ur time to do it if you get bored in another class or finish the work early, or even have a study hall. this will save u lots of time & energy to do the other big assignments/studying for tests!
₊˚⊹♡ go from hardest to easiest in terms of assignment difficulty, the more things you get done that are harder the less energy you waste doing those hard tasks after you finish the easy homework!
₊˚⊹♡ dont settle for less! dont be afraid to email your teacher about your groupmates not doing their fair portion of the work or not helping you in the project!
₊˚⊹♡ allot tasks/time accordingly, and check in with your group mates whenever you can about progress! you can also make a gc, and make friends this way :-)
₊˚⊹♡ check! the! rubric! make sure everyone knows the rubric! check!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
₊˚⊹♡ be sure to follow the essay format your teacher would like
₊˚⊹♡ dont be afraid to ask questions about citing/analyzing text
₊˚⊹♡ KNOW THE RUBRIC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
₊˚⊹♡ always space out the time portions to draft, revise, look over and then finalize your essay before submitting!
i hope this helped w/ur studies :)
wishing all of you straight A's
