sunny: i believe new leaf has the best soundtrack within the franchise. every song is full of so much personality, even the lesser ranked ones still have some sort of charm to them. nothing beats the feeling of loading up your game and being met with music as heartfelt as this. you can tell so much love was put into each & every tune; and you don't have to be consumed by nostalgia in order to recognize that. they nailed the specific times & the transitions between songs; they captured the feeling of each part of the day perfectly. this game is so dang beautiful and the music is really representative of that.

laila: "perfect, almost every track feels like a standout in comparison to the rest of the series. even the lower rated songs were quite nice in a weird way. while i haven’t played new leaf in a while, relistening to the tracks made me want to jump right back in. having not played for so long i thought it really was just a nostalgia thing, but nah, new leaf is just that girl. like that’s it."

sunny: i feel like all the individual ratings are pretty self explanatory. everything sounds so similar, they're really lacking in the unique aspect. it's almost as if the life has been entirely sucked out of this soundtrack? there really isn't anything special going on. they seem to have a habit of just randomly throwing in uneven beats & odd noises. that being said, i don't think every track is terrible. other than 3AM and maybe 2+3PM-- none of them are really unbearable. when i played new horizons for the very first time, there was never really an explicit moment where i went "wow this shit sucks." because it wasn't like that for me. it's just lacking the charm. background music is essential to getting people immersed in a videogame-- new leaf does an excellent job at providing a memorable experience to almost every player. when i think of the music in new leaf, or wild world, it fills me with feelings that are so warm idk how to put them into words. and it's not just because these games hold sentimental value to me; because new horizons is definitely sentimental to me too. don't get me wrong, i love this game, certain tunes are very nostalgic to me due to the memories i have linked with them. but the same warm feelings aren't there, because everything sounds so bland. even if the songs aren't objectively bad-- they're just not special. at least not to me. the same sparkle simply isn't there.

worth mentioning: while both wild world & city folk share the same soundtrack - city folk was rerecorded and revamped to sound slightly better. i'll be specifically referring to the city folk editions in this section, as they're better quality, but i will bring up the wild world versions if necessary.

sunny: i feel almost like wild world's soundtrack is very hit or miss. there are some beautiful pieces in this game, but there are also a few too many that are quite mediocre. it's like i'm either mesmerized by the beauty, or i just have nothing to comment on due to how forgetful they are. city folk definitely revamped quite a few of these, as i mentioned in relation to specific songs, so that personally amplified a lot of my ratings. i also think quite a lot of songs are way too short lived, especially when you take into consideration that they're gonna be on repeat for an hour straight. i feel like this soundtrack in specific really perpetuates my preference for evening/night time music, there are some day tracks i enjoy; but the late ones have a specific feel to them that i adore.
