Fish of the Day 28 - I got that snailfish in me

Today's fish of the day is the snailfish! A species i recently learnt about.. it seems pretty cool!

Snailfish facts:

- The deepest sea creature ever to have been recorded is part of the snailfish family! It was found around 8km (8000 meters, or 26246.72 feet) underwater in what's called the "hadal zone", which I think is INSANE. Another insane fact is that the second deepest sea creature ever found is also part of that family. Snailfish broke the world record for deepest sea creature, twice!

- Snailfish can be found practically everywhere... they are found in shallow-ish water and very deep water, and are scattered all around the world. A few species even live in antartic waters!

- Similarly to one of yesterday's Fish of the Days, the blobfish, species of snailfish that reside in farther depths of the ocean have very soft bodies, perfectly built to withstand the ridiculous pressures of the deep ocean. However, they do have very soft bones... which the blobfish lacks entirely! 

- The snailfish family is often grouped with another family of fish called "lumpsuckers" which may just be the most ridiculous name I've ever heard. 

- Although they're called "snailfish", many consider them to look more like tadpoles than anything, which I agree with! However... it seems that the name "tadpole fish" has been claimed by another species.
