What is Wancore?

Wancore is an aesthetic that resembles kawaii but involves animals, mainly dogs, rabbits, cats, and hamsters. Information about its emergence is unclear; however, it is worth noting that it may have appeared in the 2000s in Japan, particularly in youth magazines and pet sales. Many wancore artworks contain Japanese words and similar elements. The name comes from the San-X brand "Wan Wan" and the Japanese word "wanco," which means "doggy." The aesthetic features cute animals, emoticons, pastel and vibrant colors, colorful text, and sparkles.
