Hi!!! today I'd like to talk about the originality and diversity of styles in the old-school vkei scene! (+ an 1h36 playlist that i made to get you in the mood in the background, let me know if you want it <3)

I looooove this type of style, the first time I saw a member of a vkei group, it was Hizaki from Versailles and I had no idea he was a man x) 

it's soo cool to see an alternative culture playing so much with the codes of our society... it gave me a lot of courage in assuming my part of femininity that I've always been afraid to show...I'm still working on it but it's a long and complicated road, I hope you'll also succeed in accepting yourself!!!!<33

They also liked to use black-and-white makeup, rather like the corpse paint used in black metal, but more discreet

Apart from that, I think the most emblematic element remains the use of clothes present in the hard-rock scene of the time, even the gothic scene: bracelets, necklaces, corsets... but also tights, leather clothes and even latex for some!

What do you like about vkei btw? Well, a bit of everything ofc, but there are probably some things that speak to you more than others... Personally, I love the idea of belonging to a culture, of feeling represented and, above all, understood!!! It's often difficult to be yoursel in many countries (not to say all), it's painful to close in on oneself because you don't dare show what moves you at the risk of being laughed at (or even worse), I tend to be pessimistic but I keep a bit of a utopian side at times haha, my dream would be to live in a world where everyone could find the motivation and support to develop their own personality and where we're encouraged to be original, that would make our world a whole lot more creative and unique I think <3

But I also like the eclectic side of this scene, the fact that there are bands doing rock, pop, metal, punk etc... it forces originality and the mixing of genres, the mixing of cultures! even if it's true that lately vkei bands have been doing more or less the same thing, many of them musically similar, there are few bands that really stand out... i hope there'll once again be an era filled with varied and personal music!!!!

i've always found this choice of name rather intriguing (and strange), Éliphas Lévis was a 19th-century French occultist...actually, i'm fascinated by occultism of that period, particularly in France (my country) where it was quite popular, especially in certain Paris cafés where meetings were held, it's too interesting a period, and some really excelled in this field (notably a certain Stanislas......)
