The question was something like "Anyone have any heads up for website building sites to avoid that are using the Gen AI garbage?"
What's your skill level? Do you have a budget? How comfortable are you with setting up backend (server, panel, etc) stuff?
I've
a background in Web Design and have done server administration, so I
was able to take the nuclear option and and just roll my own. For the
blog, I jumped to ClassicPress ( a fork of WordPress pre-Block era). For
my personal sites I use Eleventy when it wasn't just HTML/CSS/JS.
If
you're pinched for hosting a static site, there are a ton in the 'indie
web' space that are free. While small and limited (rarely server-side
is allowed, extra space and perks you gotta pay for [ex: custom url,
databases, php]), it's more than enough space to get a static site off
the ground.
If
you need a CMS, I WON'T recommend WordPress due to the current brouhaha
and their allowing of AI scraping (and it's opt-out, of course). Again,
ClassicPress is the one I put my weight behind. I like it so far. I've
also heard good things about the Ghost CMS.
