> i kind of figured this out as i went and did some sleuthing around the net along the way when i got stuck at points. this tutorial cuts out all the fluff that other people do with these and cuts right to the chase. this is essentially an all-in-one guide for setting up texture mods in dolphin.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- go to https://gamebanana.com.
- search for texture packs for the game(s) of your choice.
- download texture packs.
- open "file explorer".
- click on "downloads".
- extract the folders of the texture packs.
- keep file explorer open.
- open "dolphin".
- right click on a game that you downloaded a texture pack for.
- click on "properties".
- click on the arrow at the top right of the window until you see "info".
- highlight the text listed by "game ID".
- copy the text. (for example, the game ID should look something like GAFE01 [Animal Crossing: Population Growing]. Each game has a unique ID code. It's important to know the basis of what to look for.)
- open "notepad" on your PC.
- paste the text in your notepad (i like to make a label of what the game is right under the game ID. it makes things a lot easier to manage).
- repeat the steps after "open dolphin" until you have all game IDs (and their corresponding names) for each game that you had downloaded texture packs for.
- here's a tip: each game ID will have an abbreviation of its game title. (i.e., GAFE01 = Animal Forest [Animal Crossing's Japanese title], GFZP01 = F-Zero GX, and GMSE01 = Super Mario Sunshine) (AF = Animal Forest, FZ = F-Zero, MS = Mario Sunshine).
- go back to dolphin.
- click on "file".
- click on "open user folder".
- click on "load".
- click on "textures".
- create files for each different game.
- copy a game ID.
- rename a folder with its corresponding game ID (do not include the game's title. that was purely for organization purposes)
- drag each texture pack mod to its corresponding game folder. make sure you attach the right files to the right folders.
- open dolphin.
- click on "options".
- click on "graphics configuration".
- click on "advanced".
- check the boxes for "load custom textures" and "enable graphics mods".
- click "close" at the bottom of the window.
- close "file explorer".
- save and close your notes.
- open your desired game in dolphin.
- you should be set from here! happy retro gaming!
