Ghost world

Ghost World is a super weird but totally relatable movie that feels like it was made for anyone who’s ever felt out of place. The main character, Enid (played by Thora Birch), is this sarcastic, kind of punk girl who just graduated high school but has no clue what she wants to do with her life. Honestly, Enid’s attitude is what makes the whole movie work. She’s got this “I don’t care” vibe, but at the same time, you can tell she’s totally lost and doesn’t know where she fits in.

Enid doesn’t follow the typical rules of what people think you should do after high school. While her best friend Rebecca (Scarlett Johansson) is starting to get more serious about growing up and moving on, Enid is like, “Whatever.” She dyes her hair green on a whim, dresses in these funky thrift store outfits, and spends her days doing random stuff like pranking people for fun. But behind all her sarcasm and jokes, she’s actually really lonely and doesn’t connect with anyone. She doesn’t even seem to want to.

The weirdest part of the movie is when Enid gets obsessed with Seymour, this awkward older guy (Steve Buscemi) who collects old records. He’s basically the definition of uncool, but she likes that he’s kind of a misfit like her. Their friendship is one of those things that makes you go, “Wait, what?” but it’s also sweet because they get each other in a way no one else does.

Enid’s whole personality is this mix of not caring and caring too much, and that’s what makes her so interesting. She wants to be different from everyone else, but at the same time, she’s desperate to figure out where she belongs. You see her pushing people away, making bad decisions, and just generally trying to figure out what to do with her life, but without any real direction.

The movie is slow in parts, and it doesn’t have a super clear ending, which some people might hate, but that’s kind of the point. Enid’s journey isn’t neat or predictable. If you’ve ever felt like you don’t fit into what everyone else is doing, Enid’s character will probably hit hard. She’s kind of annoying but also real in a way that’s hard to shake.

Overall, Ghost World isn’t like your usual teen movie. It’s quirky and dark, but if you’re into characters who don’t have it all figured out, especially ones like Enid who are weird, cynical, and totally over it, you’ll probably love it.
