I wanted to start my Blog off with something I do a lot on any Website that allows me to just put my ideas and thoughts out there and that is a short Retrospective on MySpace and why so many people who never used it, including me, want to experience it through a website like SpaceHey
MySpace itself is a name almost entirely now brought up when relating to something old. It is always learned about now in a Historical sense despite the website being technically up today though it has definitely seen better days in terms of activity. Yet because of this, there is a sense of Nostalgia in those who actually got to experience MySpace when it was at its peak and remember when it was the only real way you could socialise with people online before Facebook became the new dominant player.
But cut to years after MySpace essentially died and was turned into what it is today under Fox News Corp there has been a sudden rise of interest in it by those who never experienced MySpace itself when it was the Social Media Giant that it was, the rise of Interest in MySpace consists with the rise of anemoia for the older Internet, back when we didn't have the ability to download games or watch hundreds of hours of content with just a few clicks of a mouse. I myself never experienced this era of the Internet yet I also look at it with a sense of Nostalgia that didn't exist until I essentially made it exist through a yearning for the old ways I never lived under.
So the question is, why? Why do we all look back at MySpace and think of it so fondly that we make accounts on a MySpace replica despite the actual website still technically being up? Well, the obvious and most correct answer would be that we all want to experience and live in the past, the early internet is such a fascinating era to look back on and actually getting to live in a little piece of it does feel amazing but I'd like to argue there is another reason why, and that is an escape from Modern Reality.
Right now Present, the current Internet is so big that it's outright overwhelming and in my opinion the Internet is at its most toxic right now, hatred has become an internet norm even if you don't see it right in front of you with the endless amount of drama's, cancellations, online arguments & cyberbullying happening nearly every second it's just too much for any person and at some point anyone can have their limit reached online, so when we take a second to look back at what the Internet used to be it looks almost utopian with it's simple chatrooms, blogs, animations, video's. They seemingly show a time when the Internet was peaceful, even if that wasn't the actual case since just like the current Internet, the old Internet was a place you could go to forget about your worries in life.
So to close this off, I'm not bashing the idea of wanting to relive how the old Internet was infact I'm actively participating in it but I just wanted to write down why I personally think we all wish to relive our manufactured perception and memories of what the Internet used to be.
MySpace & Why we're fascinated with it.

What a great read, I use the website to help promote the style of content we do. capturing local bands within the san antonio scene and archiving it for the future generation to watch and share.
