This is my first blog post and I’m not exactly sure where or how to start.
Let me say ahead of time that I absolutely love my job and the people I work with. I have almost zero complaints other than the one I’m about to speak on. I’ve been at this place for a bit now and haven’t had a lot of issues (minus an issue with a racist coworker who no longer works there).
Recently my place of work got a new store manager but not just someone random, he’d been our assistant store manager for as long as I’d been working there. Now our previous manager just moved up in the company, so he’s left us. I loved this man he was kind and a hard worker. I could go on for a while about how wonderful he was but we’d be here for a while. He deserved his raise.
Now we get to his replacement. This man has had issues since day one. When started working here he was, supposedly, a recovering alcoholic. Before started there he’d struggled with alcohol to the point of losing his license and car. It’s good to note he's also a felon for these things I’ve listed. Without going on too much of a tangent about him (we can save that for a different day) he’s very well educated and is basically stuck in college.
Since gaining the position, he’s been taking advantage of it (shocker I know). Today really pissed me off. For the sake of the story, I will be giving fake names to everyone in the situation. I will obviously refer to myself in first person, the “bad” manager James, and another manager in this story as Tim.
So, I was scheduled to work open this morning which I’m typically doing Monday-Friday give or take. Something to note, the way my company works is that you cannot go into the store by yourself, for example my manager Tim was scheduled at 7am before open time to do things before the day started but he would not be allowed to go in by himself for accountability purposes. In order to go in he would have to call corporate for permission. I come in an hour later to open with whoever got there at 7 and see that Tim is the only person there which is already odd.
We open as normal and continue through part of the morning. At 9am another person who we can call Sarah was scheduled to come in and we start to talk about how James is a no show. He was already supposed to be at the store before we opened and wasn’t which was an issue. We now notice that James has his car parked in the same spot he usually parks in but nobody saw him come in or anything. Tim checks the office and even the bathroom and he’s NOWHERE to be found. We work and just kind of keep watching outside to see if he’s out there. 3 hours go by YES THREE!! And in strolls James (mind you we’re SWAMPED and in need of help) he jokes with Tim about “watching us” and seeing how busy we are then walks back to the office. According to Tim, he smelled like alcohol. This escalates into us being packed and nobody to help. Sarah and I are running the whole store while poor Tim is getting truck in the back and cannot leave for obvious reasons. I then notice James walking OUT of the store without a word and he leaves.
I’m the only person who saw him leave so I let Tim know who is baffled and very very mad. Long story short he fucking left and doesn’t return. This isn’t the first or even second time he’s done this so we contact our old store manager who now runs a district that isn’t ours and according to Sarah he said he was going to tell our district manager. I know he’s probably just going to get a slap on the wrist but maybe when he inevitably does it again, he will see some sort or repercussions.
I can do more stories involving James and many more.
Maybe I will.
Anyway LMAO
