the week seems to be going by fast--after only 2 full days of work, it's already over halfway done. monday's staff day was going well until the end of the bias, microaggressions, and gender identity presentation when an old fart part time coworker of mine that only works mornings so i never see him started asking the presenter what she thought about "biological males" in women's prisons and sports and something about dei being removed from caterpillar and some universities i think. thankfully at my table was a new younger nonbinary coworker in a different department that i still hadn't talked to yet until that day so we got to heckle the entire thing trans to trans and i had someone to give a deadpan stare to as soon as that question was asked.

on a similar note, i saw psycho in the theater sunday afternoon and way too many people in there laughed way too hard for way too long when the word "transvestite" was said at the end. other than that was very awesome i love that movie, i remembered the plot generally and that it looked cool but i was still impressed anew, specifically by the design of the intro sequence, the camera work throughout, and the final shot at the very end. i also enjoyed seeing it with someone who had never seen it before--it's very well done and really is confusing and unpredictable if you don't already know what happens. will be returning to said theater this sunday to see little shop of horrors ; both and many others are being shown as part of a series of halloween screenings all through the month of october. as part of that journey i also had a very delicious burger and got dsu on vinyl from the record store and mariokart from mega replay

we went to a show in a small town just under an hour drive away on saturday night and it ruled. got super drunk and heard awesome screamo with budys and flung myself around harder than usual got a bruise on my hand from hitting it on stuff (myself mostly) wandered around for a little bit after to work the alcohol off and found an interesting looking library and some cute halloween decorations and played on a playground around 10 or 11 at night. i went down all the big slides

i had some incredible mail days last week, including the new riddle m album "lo stereo" on cd and stomachaches 10th anniversary merch (hoodie and shirt)

lo stereo is a great album, to be expected--another one recorded completely analog, it blends the classic riddle m charm & whimsy with synths and a lot of poppy hooks. i remembered a lot of these songs from shows between this album and the last one, aurora. i specifically loved sunset inn, peaches & cream (showcases exactly what i mean by the "classic charm"), and the electronic interlude ascension. this album also marks harrison's first release as a chicago-based artist; he's been trying to move to the city for years at this point and i'm glad he was finally able to. i've seen him announce a lot more shows in the past few weeks and post a lot of journalism about the album ; i'm stoked to see him have the opportunity he's wanted and get the recognition he deserves and i'm glad i got to witness the come up. i've told him not to be a stranger

goes without saying fucking epic and raw

& i've been listening to this album a lot recently

we started our seasonally appropriate rewatch of twin peaks last night and damn it was that entire thing a sight for sore eyes

it was sad + also cathartic and good + conveniently timed = bittersweet to finish monk but i was definitely excited to get started with twin peaks and monk will always be there in times of need. + i'm used to watching the same seasons of that show over and over and over and over again anyways. i'm glad i have it even though the box set is probably the most poorly constructed thing i've ever laid eyes on and i'm glad i got to share it with rice and jenny

twin peaks is definitely one of if not the single most visually beautiful thing i've ever watched in terms of the setting and up there with american movie in terms of the overall comfiness of it environmentally. it also for sure goes without saying at this point culturally that it's extremely well written, well done, engaging, and endearing on every front and that all the characters are uniquely lovable memorable and iconic. the box set i have for this show is also of much higher quality and is easier to use by a long shot

in addition to being an all around fun watch i imagine this will also serve as an awesome cure for smoking weed most days ; most shows i watch i can watch high just fine but twin peaks requires a certain level of actually locked in to be able to process it ; i also just want to fully absorb it to the best of my ability

i feel like in terms of moderation and keeping myself under control i have a decent relationship with weed/substances but it sucks to almost constantly be thinking about the next time i'll be able to smoke or i can or can't smoke on such and such a day for such and such a valid or completely bullshit arbitrary reason ; just kind of waking up and working and waiting for when i'll smoke the next time. in part to abate this i feel a need for more consistently scheduled hangouts and more structured activities in my life ; at the same time i only have so much time & not enough to myself & i also want to make more time for creativity and writing

i would love to get back into d&d though and i am gradually working on reading through a new book i got while we were on our trip last month called "candlekeep mysteries" and figuring out how i could implement it into something ; i have never run a game before but i think it would be a lot of fun

today marks one year since top 10 times i've cried was released ; in light of this i've been reminded of & thinking about this show in someone's apartment in normal last november soon after the album was released. it was a release show for an issue, i believe the third, of a zine called white noise. i went with tucker and jenny and we got stuck in traffic in downtown peoria for a really long time ; we showed up super late but somehow by the time we got there music still hadn't started yet. i believe 2 bands played then teeth. there were zines to grab and art hung up on the walls to look at and boxed wine. marble teeth ended up playing for an hour, maybe even an hour and a half, solo with the tv--he has a dvd with visuals and backing tracks. we all huddled in around and sat on the floor with the lights off. he said "this is the last one" so many times and kept playing ; at one point probably after at least 3 last ones a group of at least 5 or 6 people showed up ; i remember clearly one girl walking in and being like ":O YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSS". after they came he played for at least 20 more minutes. at one point he asked me to pour him some box wine and i ended up judging the capacity of the cup very incorrectly and spilling some on top of the amp on accident. to this day that's still easily one of my favorite shows i've ever been to and i'll treasure it forever i think

it has gotten cold enough outside to where my tires have started holding air weird and a sweatshirt is a necessity ; freeze warnings have been issued and plants need to be brought inside to survive. we need to find out a way to hang rice's ivy plant up inside because i like it. it's sitting under the grow light right now

i don't really like it when it's cold outside but i think i will enjoy days where it doesn't make me sweat a lot to go for a walk and i do like wearing hoodies a lot. another plus side to this is i am now able to share a bed with my nonbinary wife comfortably and not be way too hot

to conclude something i have just realized this big gig is 2 weeks away and i am. shitting myself yea

the

that's the extent of my thinking for today if you have read this far well thanks & stay safe take care of yourself and love your friends and love your world
