South America is definitely a hub for modern psychobilly activity, ranging everywhere from Sharks-esque clean psychobilly to more punk/metal influences. I really think these albums paint a picture of Mid-American psychobilly.
1. Cadaveres Feneticos- …Into The Graveyard (2024, self-released)
This is a strange new pick only coming out in September. I feel rarely, especially now, you get psychobilly with an almost clean guitar sound – save for a little reverb on tracks like UFO Attack. This isn’t to say it doesn’t rock, it is just a little different from the expected, which is refreshing. I really love the vocals most on this (what can I say, this Dogwolf loves a good growl). If you’re fiending for completely fresh music this is ripe just for you.
2 .Dragstrip Demons- Mexican Psychobilly (2005, Crazy Love Records)
Speed is the name of the game in psychobilly; Dragstrip Demons really bring it in full force on the sequel to their debut record. I really love the frantic pace of, well, everything. This is the shit that gets Ms. Dogwolf moving and it should have the same effect on any true psycho.
3. Los Enterradores- No Mas Un Puno de Tierra (2022, BAMBAM Records)
This has a great nonstop pound to it. Tin-y drums usually sound annoying and uncool, but with the wialing wahs providing a backdrop, these drums rush up front really making you want to slam into somebody. The in-your-face Mexican pride even overtakes that of Dragstrip Demons, but I really appreciate their love of their history, folklore, and culture plastered all over this album. Even on sludgier songs, this is something truly evil with vox like a man with 0 hope in the world or anything coming. This albums something alright.
That's all! Expect way more from Sud America (a little Spanish for you there). :3
