My Fav Songs - Desert Song by MCR

Desert Song by My Chemical Romance is a perfect song to me.

ahhhhhhhh this one is too good.

i guess I start at the beginning of the song-

The song starts with the most solemn sounding acoustic guitar possible, it kind of sounds like youre walking through a cemetery. Then Garards voice comes in with such an emotional and quiet tone- its something the average MCR listeners aren't really used to hearing because he had this voice on some of the tracks from Bullets, but since then in the revenge era he kept being emotional but usually loud. Anyways- the song has this walking pace, which is why it reminds me of the cemetery, not too fast, and just slow enough for Gerard to carry out the notes he sings for the right amount of time to make us feel what he feels.

the lyrics and chords are delivered in a fashion that really sounds like you are just batrely chugging along, you are so done with life, youre so close to the end. which is exactly what the lyrics say, the song is basically about how all of this "rocking out" and trying and trying just to die some day. which can be a little brutal IK, but i feel like you can take this song multiple ways. On one hand its depressing, yeah were all gonna die, might as well give up. On the other hand, it is so beautiful that we all have a completely different life and the thing that unites us at the end of it is death.

Next is my favorite part- and probably my favorite part of any MCR song ever- and I know all the MCR songs.

the bridge has such simple yet affective lyrics. ands I will be quoting them so I can refer to them line by line;

1) "from the lights to the pavement,

2)  from the van to the floor,

3)  from backstage to the doctor,

4)  from the earth to the morgue, morgue, morgue, mourgeeeeeaaaahaaaahaaaaaaaa"

Singing these words Gerard sounds so exhausted, hes so done, giving up. #1 refers to going from being up onstage, in front of the lights, in the spotlight, on a pedestal to being at rock bottom, lying on the pavement. all those people you performed for think you are a specimen of entertainment, and they pay to watch your show. And you perform, to the best of your abilities, but really you just wanna lay on the pavement, which is as low as you can go, because thats how you really feel. #2 refers to being on the tour van (im assuming) to again laying on the floor, rock bottom. #3 refers to the attitude of "thye show must go on," like the show is more important than your health, even to us performers. I know I have put aside my own health (mental or physical) to still dance, its a phenomenon- when artists becoming consumed with their art they don't know what to do without it, and it becomes more important than yourself, because a lot of artists consider their art to be an extension of themselves, and its usually their favorite part of themselves, and they can't give it up. I fall victim to this too, its like Id rather sever my own arm off than miss dance class, god forbid a performance. #4 is referring again to the all encompassing death that we all meet eventually. even your favorite performers.

then the song repeats the verses, sounding even more exhausted and worn out than before, and then the song is over. right as you really start to feel your heart ripping apart.

i love the guitar, I loveeee Gerards voice in this song, and I love My Chemical Romance. Perfect song for me.

my apologies for any spelling / grammar mistakes
