What are your thoughts on "Crimson Peak" (2015) ??
My review (sort of): A movie for people who love hot people and ghosts; jk, watched "Crimson Peak" by Guillermo del Toro last night and felt completely nostalgic and comforted, I swear that house is haunted and creepy but I wanna move there, haven't felt that attracted to a place in a long time. It's scary and beautiful in the best way and the whole movie just hits all the right spots when it comes to my adoration for the beauty of horror and thrillers: it felt like those scary stories you would make up during sleepovers when you were 7, never really sure if they were real or not;
maybe I'm biased, yes I have a thing for haunted magnificent castles in the middle of nowhere...
...but everything was balanced perfectly, the mystery, the romance, the hatred and pity for the characters, the suspense, and the great (well, almost great) final resolution. It is an amazing modern approach to classic horror, that horror that needs to be beautiful in some sort of way, that horror that uses visual or conceptual elements to build its story: the way the hair falls on the shoulder of the protagonist, the way the clothes contrast with the scenery, the way the music score implies that a plot-twist is coming. It reminded me of films like "Orlando" (1992), "The Shining" (1980) or "Bram Stoker's Dracula" (1992) in all the best ways!
