typology

For any of those who don't know, typology is a classifications of people's cognitive functions, shortly saying at least. There are systems like enneagram that focus on different things but the main idea is to categorize certain things about people's behavior, thought process, functioning etc., and use this as a tool. It's a very broad field even thought it's just a psychology's wannabe (pseudo-science)

I've been into typology since 2020, more specifically ever since I've taken the 16p test and got INTP-T. Some of you are probably familiar with this test and maybe have even taken it. Let's just say this is NOT a good idea to type anyone based on any internet test, especially 16p. It's good to take for fun, but that's about it. Anyway, after 3 years I dropped typology, realizing that I've been mistyped this whole time and that I kinda lost my sense of self trying to fit into the INTP stereotype. Now that few months have passes and I have changed my attitude towards it, I kinda came back. I don't read as much as before but I'm trying to see how people actually behave and figure out how cognitive functions work on my own. It's way more useful and fun this way. Because like I said before, typology is a tool, but you need to know how to use it.

The thing is, it's not the typology that's the problem, but people who treat it as a way to put themselves and others into boxes. Typology was never meant to do that. It takes some parts of people's functioning and categorizes it. Everyone is different, so trying to take every single person, their whole life experience, thoughts, feelings etc., and putting it into a very specific description of a personality type just doesn't work. Let's take enneagram for example. People sintead of treating the enneagram types as coping mechanisms, think those are personality types, and then act like from 8 billion of people, everyone has to fit into one of those 9 personalities. That's not what enneagram is at all. It doesn't take the whole person, only one part of them, and puts it into a category so that it's easier to name it. If you see it like that, it can be a really helpful thing to understand other people and their behavior. You are not your enneagram, your enneagram is a description of your coping mechanism style.

I think typology is super cool and actually fun to study. Just don't take it too far and don't take online tests unless it's just for fun.

Here's a link to a video that made me come back to typology. It's about enneagram and as you can see I used some things said there in this blog: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Sz7NM7wbSo

To any typology nerds reading this, feel free to share your typology! I'm curious to see :]
