how did videogames impact Youtube's history ?

    Lets face it, videogames were an important part of Youtube's history. With a lot of people getting online to play videogames, share information about it and trying to beat records, the genre is one of the most important on the platform nowadays. We will mostly talk about more RPG games, even if shooter games and team games were also mostly present on Youtube.

    First of all, one of the biggest community on Youtube was the speedrun community. The point of a speedrun is to complete the game the fastest possible. The main technique used is to try to find glitches in the game to finish it faster. What we are trying to achieve is beating new time records. This is a very big group beacause, being short and entertaining videos, most gamers find this interesting. This only works with non-shooter games and non-infinite level games, however. Only games with an end can have a speedrun.

     Another big type of gaming videos on Youtube are lets plays. The principal of a lets play is just to finish a game. the length can be from a couple videos of 20 min to hour long videos. People  will mostly watch lets plays for two main reasons : either because they like the person playing or because they are playing a game they find interesting. An example of an American Youtuber that does a lot of lets plays and still does is Markplier and an example of a French one was Squeezie, even if he stopped now.

    The last gaming community on Youtube we will be seeing are just the content creators. What i mean by content creators are people who dont make money out of playing the game but out of speaking about it. This is very interesting for the people who have already played the game and want to learn more about it. From Easter eggs (secrets or references hidden in games) to theories about the universes, the amount of content that can be created is endless.

    In conclusion, videogames are a big part of Youtube's history. After all, the biggest Youtuber during its prime (2016-2020), was a gamer Youtuber. Without videogames, Youtube would probably be a very different platform from what it is nowadays.
