I’ve got a few entries here on SpaceHey where I keep coming back after long breaks. It’s not that I don’t want to be here—I love the nostalgia and being able to personalize my page exactly the way I like it. But the engagement here is definitely lower compared to other sites I’m on, and that’s been kind of a challenge for me.
In my last entry, I mentioned how Facebook kicked me off, but the update is they let me start another page, so I’m back there too. Honestly, I’m on almost every social media platform I can think of, or at least I try them when they pop up. But none of them let you customize your profile like SpaceHey does, and that’s why this site always stays on my radar, even if I take long breaks.
I think the biggest thing for me is that I’m still waiting (or hoping) to find a community here—or maybe even bring some of the communities I’ve built on other platforms over to SpaceHey. But there are some features I think need to be added before that can happen. While I get the appeal of keeping SpaceHey as a throwback to the old MySpace days, I feel like adding a few modern features could really help make this place thrive.
My Suggestions for SpaceHey:
⭐ Previewing code before submitting it.
I can't even tell you how many times I’ve had to delete comments because the code didn’t work. A simple preview option would save a lot of time and frustration when customizing posts or comments.
⭐ Adding the music/media player and allowing band pages to function as personal profiles.
That way, users who are also musicians don’t have to juggle between two separate pages (unless they want to, then it would be nice to add band pages.
⭐ Photo albums and galleries.
It would be great to have dedicated spaces for photo albums and galleries to display memories or artwork more easily.
⭐ Video albums and galleries.
Same as with photos—having a place to organize videos into albums.
⭐ Photo uploads for blogs.
Being able to upload images and videos for blogs instead of just urls.
⭐ Blog stats.
Being able to see the total number of blog subscribers and kudos across all entries would be really helpful. Also, a feature to share blog posts directly to other social media platforms.
⭐ Photo albums and galleries.
It would be great to have dedicated spaces for photo albums and galleries to display memories or artwork more easily.
⭐ Monetization (I know, hear me out on this one):
I get that many people don’t love the idea of monetizing social media, but it’s become a huge part of how platforms function today. I’ve been on about two dozen social media platforms and some handle it well while others don’t. My suggestion? At least allow blog monetization. People could support creators with something like "super kudos," and maybe offer exclusive content for “super subscribers.” The same could apply to layout designers—giving them the chance to earn from custom projects. And for musicians, it would be great if they could sell MP3s directly on the platform (like $0.99 per download).
Maybe even add a personal shop feature so users can sell crafts and products.
⭐ Revenue share to support SpaceHey.
A portion of these payments could go back to SpaceHey to keep things running and reduce the need for ads as the site scales.
⭐ SpaceHey Instant Messenger. (see images below)
Bring back something like the old Myspace IM, and maybe even group chat rooms for different interests or communities. That would be a great way to connect with people in real time.
⭐ Browse users feature. (see images below)
It would be awesome to have a way to browse users, but with more identity and interest options than the old Myspace version. This is how I found a lot of my friends back in the day, and those connections still last today.
⭐ Age and location settings (even if they're fantasy locations).(see images below)
I loved how you could put fun or non-existent locations on your profile, but it was still super helpful for finding people you could connect with in real life or based on shared interests.
That’s all I can think of at the moment. If anyone has additional ideas, I’d love to hear them! Feel free to share how you think my suggestions could be improved too.

The ability to subscribe to forum topics in forums and in group forums to recieve notifications on replies to threads/topics.
Currently the only person who gets notifications is the topic creator thus the threads all die a quick death. This is why the forums and the groups on here are all dead. It's stupid really, and a quick fix. But I guess having a stupid app that doesn't really do anything was more important?
Perhaps those of us with some knowledge can assist him if he's willing to take volunteers. I think the app was created because the squeaky wheel gets the oil, and many people pushed for the app. I was fine (as were many others) with the mobile web version, which I still use over the app.

Music platform all the way, I'd even pay money for it
Biggest issue is people uploading music they don't own the rights too, then things get difficult....but it is missing the music player
Definitely agree it is very needed. I think I remember An mentioning he was figuring out the music license thing. If he can work something out perhaps we can have access to a music library like Spotify, Youtube or SoundCloud where can just create playlists from the available music choices that way there would be no need to upload music unless it was your own creation.

You know, paying for a musician/band profile would probably get rid of the people who just want to upload other people's music? Make them sign an agreement that if they upload any music that they do not own the rights to then their account will be deleted and there money will not be refunded.

I think its the time and also resources, he is studying at University so all of that comes first. I read his studies are related to what he is doing here though so there is that. I do think he'd be surprised at the take up though, if he did implement it.
There is another option of course, and that is to provide a player that only plays off sites like dropbox or whatever and doesn't host anything I haven't mentioned that to him but I am sure he's thought of it
