Today's sea creature is the Bigfin Squid. To be completely honest, I dont know how much I like this thing! It reminds me of cellar spiders. That didn't stop me from researching it, though.
Bigfin Squid facts:
- The bigfin squid is very elusive. Although im getting different answers from multiple sites, it sounds like there have been only around 12 official, confirmed sightings of this creature, and no physical adult specimen has been obtained as of now.
- These squid can reach 6 meters in length, and the longest recorded length of a bigfin squid is around 6.4 meters. However, their actual body consists of a small percentage of it, their tentacles/legs make up most of their size.
- One bigfin squid has been spotted at a depth of roughly three MILES underwater (thats insane!)
- The diet and feeding habits of the bigfin squid are unknown. However, some speculate they may use their tentacles to grab things off the floor. Others think their microscopic suction cups trap other creatures that bump into their tentacles.
- As far as im aware, the latest video sighting of the bigfin squid was taken last month (september 2024) you can watch it here!
Do you got that squid in you?
