So just for the uninitiated 75 Hard is a mental toughness challenge first and foremost. Here are the daily tasks for the 75 day long challenge.
01. Follow a diet. You get to pick the parameters but it needs to be healthy and you cannot have any cheat days.
02. Two Daily 45 minute work outs. Again you get to choose yor woork out. Most people have a 45 minute walk as their second workout. One must be outside which a walk also accomodates nicely. Some people think this is a harder aspect of the challenge because the weather is not also cooperative. I cycled to work rain or shine for years and also enjoy running through puddles so this isn't the hard part for me.
03. Drink a gallon of water. Coffee, tea, flavored water does not count. You can have those things, I do as black coffee is usually my breakfast, but you also need to down a gallon of water. You also have to give up alcohol which is not a problem for me because I do not drink.
04. Take a daily progress photo. This is the one that I always forget. I plan on doing it first thing in the morning but am always rushing around with my kids and forget it until mid day or supper time.
05. Read for 10 minutes a day or 10 pages I forget honestly. But I've been reading much more than that either way. Look man you can google the rules. Oh and it's a non fiction preferably self help book. So I've been reading through my colossal stack of books I've been meaning to read for years.
So I've been wanting to do this for months and have been watching people's progress videos and junk. But there will never be a perfect time to start it so I just jumped in one day. My plan was to just make sure to follow through with it for the first day then not stress about it after that. So far I've been able to sneak everything in. According to the official rules if you fail a day you start over at day one. Which is fine by me. If I just keep trying until I hit the 75 day stream I will be in a better position than I was at the beginning. Just like my favorite motivational poster says "Aim for the Moon even if you miss you'll land among the stars!" So that's the philosophy I'm rolling with on this journey.
So for those that don't know I've been running and losing weight and junk for a while. About a month or two ago I started getting a knee ache, nothing majoy but just enough for me to easy off running in my advanced elderly age of 41. It'll always heal back up and stop aching but if I go out and run a 5k it'll start to ache just slightly. So I've restrategized and changed my plan. I'll be doing some cycling for the main event and cycling my kids to school in the baby trailer then doing some miles MWF and then do some walking to get that second workout in. Then I've also added some hiking to the mix which my son has really been enjoying. So far no aches. So my plan is once I get to the next major weight loss milestone I'll start running again. Because honestly I do enjoy running and racking up cool 5k medals. The races around here have way cooler prizes and medals than when I was running them 20 years ago.
I didn' t know what I was going to do with this page but had the idea to use it as the dump for my 75 Hard log and then maybe after that just a general training log. I'm sure I will post other malarkey here but this is a good enough start for me.
