Fish of the Day 10 - I got that ray in me

Okay, we're back on track and returning to actual fish

Todays fish is the round stingray! An adorable species of ray.

Round stingray facts:

- These cute little guys are excellent hiders! Their skin naturally blends in with the sandy ocean floor, but they also enjoy burying themselves in the sand. However, their camoflague skills lead to them constantly being stepped on... and people being stung!

- Round stingray stings are not fatal, but they hurt. To avoid this, a technique called the "stingray shuffle" was created. All you do is just shuffle your feet against the sand instead of taking steps. If you accidentally touch a ray, it'll probably swim away rather than attacking you, which would normally happen if stepped on.

- They shed their stinger barb every year.

- Round stingrays live up to around 14 years. If I were a stingray, i'd be dead by now! x(
