Fish of the Day 7 - I got that salmon in me

Today i'll be talking about the sockeye salmon!!

The sockeye salmon is a beautiful yet tragic creature, and you'll soon see why.

Sockeye salmon facts (TW death):

- These creatures have a very interesting life cycle - they hatch in a river, then they migrate into the ocean, and finally they return to the same river they were originally born in, where they spawn and die. (yes, this species is anadromous! Meaning they live in both freshwater and saltwater.)

- The sockeye salmon has silvery scales for most of it's life, but it eventually turns red and green towards the end of it's life cycle!

- When they return to the river they were born in during salmon runs, they starve themselves, meaning they don't eat anything while in freshwater.

- All sockeye salmon will eventually die within a few weeks of spawning.

- Because of their life cycle, you'll never see sockeye salmon in aquariums. You'll have to see them in the wild if you want to witness one!

I love these fish so much, i even planned on making a salmon fursuit in the past LOL idk if thats happening ^_^''''
