3 Toxic Things I Have Seen In The InuYasha Fandom

In this blog I will be touching on the toxic behavior I have been seeing in the fandom for the series InuYasha.  I am very disappointed that we have people in the fandom doing these things because tbh it is disrespectful to the series. Now this is probably not everything but what I have personally witnessed in the fandom.  Feel free to add in the comments if you have seen other things that are toxic.  

1. The Team Kagome or Team Kikyo Beef: 

Keep in mind that Kagome is Kikyo's reincarnation.  Yes, in a sense they are different people, but that is because of reincarnation being evolution for the soul. We also can come into reincarnation with different makeups that makes our personalities different from other life cycles. But also we have to look at what time frames the soul is in the different life cycles. In a lot of cases as to what culture the soul is in different life cycles as well. You would be surprised just how different you yourself was in other life cycles. So basically what I am saying is that either way InuYasha ended up with his soulmate. Not everyone can get that lucky. Kagome didn't steal Kikyo's man because Kikyo had already passed away by the time Kagome got in the picture. Then Kikyo when she did come back was an angry spirit for awhile. I don't hold that against her either. Just I have seen people in the fandom on different sides of this fencing of teams say down right awful things about these 2 women. It is ok to say "Oh I want him to be with Kikyo" or "It's good he ended up with Kagome," just the trash talking about Kagome & Kikyo is pretty uncalled for. Haven't you ever thought how disrespectful that is to the series as a whole? Are any of us perfect? I am seeing this so far from other women & it is honestly a bit sad. Women putting down other women to feel better about themselves. I say how about we just accept how the series went & call it a day. We stayed continue watching after all. Here is what I kept thinking as a possibility watching the series in my youth while this played out on Adult Swim in front of me. I thought possible that InuYasha could end up with Kikyo & then Kagome goes back to modern day Japan & runs into a reincarnation of InuYasha in modern times. However, keep in mind was a possibility I wondered in my head & not something I was expecting fully. Just I guess I got a bit creative of my own & I love how this series gave different twist & turns. Keep us on our toes & regardless InuYasha was going to end up with his soulmate. 

(I am waiting to say more on this topic about Kikyo & Kagome in another blog. It will be a blog about their reincarnation situation from my perspective. It was because of their dynamic that I was able to learn a bit better about reincarnation being evolution for the soul. I honestly can't hate either one. If anything love them both for it actually.) 

          2. Fan art making the characters incestuous: 

So I have come across inappropriate fan art that is incest of 2 characters on the show. Look, it is fine to do same sex shipping, but the 2 I have seen a lot of shipping for are literally blood related & that is NOT ok! Personally I say to just self ship if you are going to do a same sex dynamic with the characters. But definitely don't have characters related to each other doing that! How would you feel if in some alternate universe someone was watching a show about your life & they was doing art to ship you & one of your family members? Wouldn't that feel pretty disrespectful? I am not going to even go into details on what I came across because guidelines for this platform exist for a reason & on top of that, it would probably be disrespectful to the series for me to go into details about that including the characters it is being done to! Please out of respect for the series & the characters I ask that the fandom stops doing that! It is not ok! Nobody related to each other should be shipped! I am just leaving it at that. This is such a sick topic to have to touch on, but it is something toxic I have seen in the fandom.  

            3. Accusations of Grooming:

Ok, this is a very uncomfortable topic for me, but it is the number 1 issue I have seen going on in the fandom. Basically I saved the worst for last. I am seeing accusations on characters being predatory groomers & it is honestly NOT the case! Not only have people in the fandom been trying to make this accusation on Sesshomaru, but also InuYasha as well, & then just recently I saw poor Koga get accused of this! PLEASE STOP FOR THE LOVE OF THE UNIVERSE!!! Or the love of whoever! Just please can these type of accusations stop in the fandom?  For one, why are people who are feeling this way staying in the fandom to begin with? If you honestly have these feelings about the series then why are you in different communities for the series continuing this in comments? How about you focus on the fight against actual real life predators? There are predator poaching groups that catch online predators that can use your support! Instead we got people remaining in the fandom to focus on complaining about anime characters that are in a different time frame & culture. No, Sesshomaru was never Rin's father figure. If anything Jaken took on that role until Lady Kaede took the role of raising her later. Sesshomaru literally saved Rin's life & love can happen in unexpected ways. We don't live in a black & white world. He never took on being her dad & he can't help how he met her. Yet they did have a soul connection & he didn't do anything inappropriate to her. Then life expectancy in that time frame all over the world for humans was way shorter than it is today. So yes, back then we had people starting out younger than we would today to start families.  I do genealogy & when I went back far in my genealogy I saw I had an ancestor that started having a family at 13! I was pretty shocked at 1st! But then looked at the time frame being in the 14 hundreds or so & got to remembering life expectancy not being what it is today. I am glad that people can mature more before starting families today & yes today in current times it is considered predatory in the real world. But this is not only a relationship from a different time frame being judged, but from an anime at that! Guys, it is not that serious & clearly Rin did accept marrying him. She wasn't forced & made her decision based on the love in her heart. Then InuYasha being with Kagome is not predatory either & neither is Koga being with Ayame. Again, if you honestly feel this type of way about the series then what are you doing still in the fandom? Please just stop this! Oh & one more thing, if it was wrong then trust me Lady Kaede being the awesome character she is would of put her foot down immediately! Keep in mind Lady Kaede became her adoptive parental figure. Sesshomaru was NEVER her daddy! 

These are the 3 things I have seen in the fandom that I wish would stop, but that's out of my control. So for the love & appreciation of the series I make this blog in defense & support if anything. This series had really helped me in so many different ways & I feel really is the least I can do.
