One of the more enjoyable experiences in my life as a kid was that I was blessed to go to a private school. Don't get it confused, we didn't have any money or anything, and I don't want to let off the idea that I'm some spoiled brat of a child when the last entry to this series was purely talking about my personal hardships. My grandfather on my dads side was a pastor at the school, so I was permitted to go to school there at no cost to my parents. By this point in my life, he had already passed away, and I really didn't get to know what kind of man he was - but I'm grateful to him today for how he made this possible for me. There's something magical about having only 10 or so students in your grade classroom, and them being your same friends growing up from 1st grade. Fierce friendships and being on good terms with all your classmates in school is something you can easily take for granted, not to foreshadow or anything. We actually played dodgeball in elementary school gym class a few times. Never any hard feelings towards anyone, that's how close we all were. A couple of these friends also played Pokemon games, so I got to do some trading with the friends, pretty freaking cool. I don't talk to any of these cool dudes anymore, although I did catch up with one friend like 5 years ago. Interesting to see how much yet how little he had changed as a person. Some people just already have their personal interests and passions decided as a 10 year old. I guess I'm interested in a lot of the same things still myself, through an ever-so aging lens. Well, good times good times. Those friends were my main joy in being at school - which is a theme that doesn't really hold true moving forward. Do you sense some character development coming soon? I sure wasn't ready for what's to come next...
