social media and growing as an artist.

I know a lot of artists including myself are struggling to build some sort of platform on social media. I'm not someone who's very active or anything on big big social medias. I know growing an audience is already a very long process.

I've previously had twitter and had a good 100-200(?) followers till I decided to deactivate that account for reasons. Not a lot of bigger social medias are for artists, should I care about being apart of a big social media? Or should I just stick with what I have; which is this spacehey account and just me building my own website using Nekoweb.

Instagram is kinda a no-go for me, I only use it to keep in touch with people irl. Twitter again? Maybe, maybe. My experience wasn't completely awful on twt but it's just very hard to get an audience. Tiktok? I think Tiktok's algorithm works pretty well but god the people there drive me away. Tumblr?? Tumblr is great and all i love tumblr but it's mostly fanart-focused but I'll give it a maybe.

Twitter and Tiktok are just on the maybe. Maybe a youtube channel too or something idk but idk what kind of content id make or if I'd even keep up with video making.

again should I just stick to what I have now and hope for the best? Or just be active on somewhere big atleast?

Personally, I would recommend the following:
- Creating a website for your art
- Sharing your art in smaller places that still have actual activity (such as forums, IRC chats, etc)
- Slowly get a few hundred or thousand folks to know your site's existence
- Bridge onto social-media again to grow things further if you want
- Monies

I am admittedly not the best at this stuff, but having your own website for things is both more professional sounding (gets normies to be more convinced you'll do right what you do) while also giving a way to easily share whatever without having to worry something will go too majorly wrong. And if you are like me in that you either want a backup or don't want to pay for domains, you can even make a mirror of your website onto TOR and I2P. Theoretically, you could also use Bitcoin and Monero cryptocurrency to allow anonymous payments, but there are several issues to crypto itself that I am not sure you'd want to use (if you know what you are doing, it is very useful, but you probably wouldn't end up using it much).
