Fish of the Day 6 - I got that orca in me

Orcas, also known as killer whales, are a popular marine mammal recognized by their black and white patterns.

Get to know the Salish Sea orcas - David Suzuki Foundation

Orca facts:

- They are extremely intelligent!!! Orcas have been shown to preform strategic hunting, and they have complex social structures. These creatures have a similar IQ to 15-16 year olds.

-  Orcas are NOT whales!! This is a misconception, they're just called whales because of their size. They are actually (☝️🤓) part of the dolphin family, and they are the biggest species to be part of it, growing up to 8 meters.

- They can live up to 80-90 years.

- They are picky eaters and have food preferences which are shared among their group.

- The "killer" part of the name "killer whale" is accurate. They'll attack things twice their size!!

- Their dorsal fin can grow as big as 2 meters. Impressive, but still not as big as a thresher shark's tail fin x)

These gorgeous creatures are one of my favourite marine creatures... like, maybe my 5th or 6th favourite. Idk. Do you got that orca in u?
