The Cactus Yote (Canis latrans spinosa) is a subspecies of Coyote that is known for growing spikes underneath its fur. It's thought that this evolutionary trait was developed to fend off predation from larger animals. The inside of their mouths also have tougher skin to accommodate their diet that includes mainly Cacti.
