lace code in punk culture

good day i would IMEDEATLY. like to clarify that i am a resident in Germany, i will mainly be talking about GERMAN lace code, and a bit about American lace code, it is slightly different do not be stupid and yell at me in the comments thank you :) also if you're in the opinion that lace code is dead i do not care, do not comment unless i got info wrong and you want to correct me, in general if i get something wrong please do tell me!

okay so, to start lace code is only "valid" on ladder laced boots, some people say its only valid on dr. martens but no one really cares about that and not everyone wants to buy expensive ass shit quality boots (my boots are dockers and they were 60 euros)

20231120-210459

if you wear coloured laced in your sneakers or any other shoes that are not boots you don't have to worry, if you wear boots with coloured laces that aren't ladder laced id still watch out a bit but only if you look alternative, else i doubt it matters too much

so now to get into the colours, again mentioning this since i am used to people that cannot read and will yell at you because they cant read (*cough cough* tiktok users) i am german, so most of the colours are the same across countries from what i know, my research is mainly online but i also asked older punks i know IRL

black = neutral (usually standardly come w the boots anyways)
white = white supremacy
pink = feminism
purple = being queer or supporting queer people
red = anarchy or communism *
blue = hating cops//having killed a cop
green = has a lot of diff meanings
yellow = unsure about this one

* so in America red is for neo-nazis, while in most of Europe red is associated with being left so usually anarchy, communism, or antifascism, people online get into quite heated debates about red shoe laces all the time its quite stupid

for the orange I've seen multiple things, the sources are "a bit" questionable tho, amino said it was for S.H.A.R.Ps and reddit said in the 80s in south Africa it was for peanut allergies?? for green its usually environmental stuffs, some say its for SKA enjoyers and also for S.H.A.R.Ps or for Irish pride but again depends on the region and i can bet you so many of these were just pulled out of peoples assholes

obviously the colours vary on region I've heard that in Canada purple is feminism and pink is being queer, i haven't confirmed this yet as whenever you google everyone is like "go do bad things to yourself lace code is dead like your mother" and even when you just try to ask what it used to be people basically want to jump you since they cannot accept that some people still care about this, usually those are the same people insisting handkerchief code is dead too and it very much isn't. anyways if there's questions ill answer or look for an answer, if you believe lace code is dead i don't care. ill delete your comment if its just you complaining about it being dead
people i know very well still use lace code to identify themselves with certain groups and to identify others with certain groups, so if you are anywhere wearing white ladder laced boots many people if they notice might ignore you, or might try to harm you so always stay safe and id say go with neutral colours if you're not quite sure!
also please do not attack randoms online for their lace colours, i remember vividly a person on tiktok getting torn apart for their red laces aaand,,,, they were from the Netherlands. many people were saying it wasnt an excuse to wear red laces wich is fucking stupid since its a diffrent region and country meaning it meant something diffrent, then again i do hope that you are smarter and will not randomly attack people online and will listen to them and wont yell at em without research, anyways if i remember anything ill add it :)
