"Cub", by Wunderhorse
I'm a sucker for great epilogues as album closers, and Jacob Slater, as the main lead and songwriter of the band, does that perfectly in this 10-song record. The sound of the album, although constant and repeated throughout the tracks, isn't executed to the extreme - hence, you don't get tired of it; overall, it makes for a very consistent record. In consonance with the themes of the lyrics, which call back mostly to the memories of being a teenager, "And we were together, when we were fifteen/ But nothing is real then, you know what I mean" (from "Teal"), the sweet and ethereal sound of the tracks also feels very nostalgic - you feel like you've heard it before, but alas, no you haven't...
Even a song like "Leader of the Pack", which clearly stands out from the rest (for its themes and melody) still works spectacularly for the overall construction of the record. A perfect lineup that again ends with "Epilogue" for you to absorb all that you've experienced.
"But times are changing/Feelings fading/And I can't place him/The boy I left behind"
Personal Favourite: "Teal" and "Mantis"
Release Date: 2022
