I deleted Twitter earlier this morning, and to be honest, it's about time. Ever since I started using the app in 2017, I never really enjoyed my experiences; the posts I were seeing slowly became more hateful and provocative, bugs and technical issues were becoming more common, features that should be free are behind an arbitrary $8/mo paywall, and the algorithm kept finding ways to keep me doom-scrolling late at night, and it's mostly all because of a single man who thought he was untouchable.
Well, thanks Elon, I'm stepping away from algorithmic monstrosities, and embracing the social networks of old, and I would do the same to Instagram, but unfortunately that's where I have all of my friends, and I need to keep in touch with them so I guess I'll keep Instagram for now, but I'll definitely stop using "Reels" for the same reason I'm quitting Twitter.
When you're chronically online, you become so intertwined in controversies, internet drama and phrases that you otherwise would never know about, I don't want to be one of those people who know the most recent trends and shit online, I just want to write and talk about my interests in niche subjects to others who share those niche interests with me.
Another thing is the severe amount of bots on Twitter. Is there a single real person on that site aside from me and Elon? Because I swear my timeline would tell you "no".
It's not good, being a part of that algorithm thats sole goal is to keep you on their platform, it's extremely unhealthy. I need to detox, forever.

Nice, it's great when you're able to get off those places and find something better. I wish I could find some way to break my crippling Reddit addiction, I've resisted for most of today but sometimes you just desperately need to get a question answered and Google shoves Reddit into every search result I know there are other search engines like Kagi that let you filter crap results but it costs money

Congrats on joining us!! I quit social media 5 years ago and made a spacehey this year as my first social media site in 5 years! The world is a wonderful place when you're offline
I highly reccomend trying to do more offline! My friend group has a board game meet up once a month where we all meet and play games and share treats we make
The internet is not where anyone should live
Enjoy your algorithm detox :)

I've really been wanting to do a d&d campaign with some Uni friends and am definitely going to take the time to get off my computer and phone more often, gonna try and find more fulfilling things to do outside my phone as well. I might take up Tennis again.
