I reeeeeaaaaaaalllyyyyyyyyy want to get into reading. It’s just difficult to do so. My brain just does not focus. I can’t visualize or I don’t understand the concept of it. I’m caught up with the idea that people can have ongoing mind movies in their head as they read someone. Aphantasia is the term that’s been coined to describe the lack of visualization. It ain’t right.
With that being said! I’ve read a handful of books this year. Sadly… I usually only read books when I need to charge my phone or I need to pass the time. Usually I bring a few books with me on road trips and if my eyes start to hurt from using my phone so much, I’ll whip out the book.
One book I’ve read is a Grace Livingston Hill book. Called Wedding Bells. I got it from a thrift store because I liked the cover. It had a redhead girl with a brunette man and a brunette boy as a cover… In the actual book the color palettes are reversed - the girl and the boy have brown hair and brown eyes and the guy has red hair and blue eyes. The book was written in the late 40s, picked up again in the 1960S and given a new cover.
I got about halfway in the book. Then I had to get rid of some of the books I have since I have so many. It was pretty good. Basically, a girl named Gillian has to take care of her five-year-old brother, Noel(?) after their parents died years ago. The MMC, Reuben, is in his… Late 20s or early 30s. I can’t remember how old he was. The girl is 16-18(!) so the age difference is weird.
I hate seeing big age differences, especially when the FMC is so young! Or not even a legal adult yet. Big age differences are okay when both lovers are adults, preferably if one isn’t a teenager. That didn’t make sense.
Reuben works at an office. Since this book was written in the 40s, it was interesting to see how the World War || played a small role. I got a book last year from Walmart called ‘Family Affairs’ and it’s mainly because I saw it mention the characters being in quarantine during the Coronavirus. I like seeing realistic fiction.
Reuben is also popular. Also interesting to see the author’s, who was a Christian, values go to work in this book. There’s a lady at his work who has a crush. I think she’s a theater kid. She kept trying to get him to come to her beach house where she was going to participate in some type of play. She’s wealthy and I believe her dad was Reuben’s boss? She’s extroverted and wild and she wears red lipstick (gasp!). It’s painting out to be a bad thing.
Gillian is a hard worker. She collapses from the all the stress near Reuben’s office. She gets rushed to the hospital in an ambulance, Reuben hopes in. She tells him where Noel’s daycare is at. He fetches him and he takes care of him while Gillian heals. It’s 2:30 A.M. Sorry.
Okay. I think Reuben has this amazing mother that I adored. Reuben took Noel to where she lived to search for houses to purchase for the boy and his sister. They previously lived in a poor, shabby, rundown apartment. He wanted to find a place with a nearby lake.
Idk that’s where I was left off. I actually did read it quite a bit, even when my phone was charged. It takes a bit for me to read something, but it gets good when I get hooked to it. I get locked in. Sometimes the fun gets ruined when I realize I’m just… Reading words… And I can’t imagine anything. Ugh. Stubborn childish brain of mine.

Yesss! It was pretty good! I guess it’s a product of its time. At least it wasn’t a darn Harlequin Romance book. THEN it would’ve been bad. The worst book I’ve ever read, a Harlequin book, was published in 1984(!). It had a worse age gap and a crappy power dynamic. I don’t get the rave for ungodly age gaps!
