"Medicine, law, business, engineering, these are all noble pursuits, and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for."
I was reminded that i wanted to watch Dead Poets Society because of a HIMYM episode, in which Barney stands up and quotes "O captain, my captain" from the movie. So i decided to give it a try even though keeping focused while watching a movie can be quite challenging for me, and i am very glad i did! It's very intense, the passion for teaching from Mr. Keating and the passion for acting from Neil, but it's invigorating - watching this in this day and age and feeling like no one really feels this intense about anything anymore and people tend to disregard Art as something that is worth pursuing, gets really discouraging, not that i'm saying we should all kill ourselves because we can't do what we want, but it was a way for him to immortalize his dream and not sucumb to his father's wishes.
My favorite scene was when Todd went up there in front of the class and Mr. Keating made him close his eyes and say whatever was on his mind so he got over the fear of reading in front of the class and then he said some weirdly beautiful things and everyone clapped and the teacher had a proud, eager look on his face, i found it very thrilling.
Also, i don't know what i was expecting from a school like that but it caught me very off guard when Charlie received that spanking it was very hard to watch.
Loved it, i'll give it a 9.5/10 because i don't like the fact that they killed off the cutest guy in the movie :)
