OBSESSION WARNING!!!!
Welcome to my Fall Out Boy blog! Thank you for being interested in my blog! In this blog I'm going to introduce you one of my favourite American band that inspires me everyday called Fall Out Boy (FOB). If you don't know them at all no worries because I will introduce them fully and link a few song from them and from bands that inspired them back then!! :)) ;)
General Datas
Name: Fall Out Boy
Formed in: 2001
Lineup: Pete Wentz, Patrick Stump, Andy Hurley & Joe Trohman
From: Chicago, Illinois
Studio Albums: 10
Members: There are 4 members in the band. Pete Wentz (Bass), Patrick Stump (Lead Guitar), Andy Hurley (Drums) & Joe Trohman (Solo Guitar)
Joe, Patrick, Pete & Andy
How they formed?
Fall Out Boy formed by Joe trohman, Patrick Stump and Pete Wentz. Pete and Joe were in already a hardcore band actually in a metal band, Joe knew Patrick who was a drummer before he took up the guitar. Joe talked about Patrick to Pete and he introduced Pete to Patrick. And they started to play together, playing covers, rehearse together after school. Before Andy the drummer joined they went through a succession of drummer! Andy joined 2 years after they formed to be more exact in 2003!! Joe and Patrick were still at high school while they played a buncha gig in the school and at venues like skate park, fireside bowl (later it'll be important) and probably at open mic nights and smaller venues. Every start's hard!!
Where are they coming from?
Fall Out Boy is coming from Chicago suburb of Wilmette, Illinois. Fun fact they were lived in the same neighbourhood! And went to the same high school Pete and Andy are the oldest band members. Obviously Pete and Andy finished the high school sooner than Joe and Patrick.
Who Write The Lyrics?
Well, the lyrics writers are Pete and Patrick. They have really weird unusual method to write lyrics and also unique that makes FOB unique and creative. Pete used to send words, thoughts via e-mail to patrick who's try to make a lyrics from those words and thoughts. For example: I'm good, to go, And I'm going, nowhere, fast, it could be, worse and so on like that. And Patrick is try to make a lyrics from these words but sometimes Pete sends him a long ass e-mail about his thoughts that somtimes are a whole lyrics he needs to make the final touches (Patrick).
I'm good to go
And I'm going nowhere fast
It could be worse
I could be taking you there with me
I'm good to go
But it looks like I'm still on my own
For example....
They all try to adjust to Pete's vision. Since he's the original author. He just used to say to Patrick that what melody he wants to the lyrics what's his vision and so on. Joe and Patrick starts to working on the melody and if Pete likes it than they starts to master it and writing a bass and drum line as well! There's no wrong way to write a song. Someone writes the melody before the lyrics someone writes the lyrics first and puts the melody to it later. Not just Fall Out Boy do it like this but the famous session musician Sting or The Police. They're writing about Sex jokes, Sex, Drugs, Music, Girlfriends, Date situations, Love, Broking up with someone, teenage problems and so on. In my opinion they're the best teenage band lol They'll never grow up. A lot of emo/scene kid loved them and still! Their lyrics are true and relateable.
What Kind Of Music They Play?
Fall Out Boy is a rock band first of all. But they play different kinds of genres such as: Pop Punk (my favourite genre), Pop Rock, Emo & Alternative Rock. FOB inspired by a lot of hardcore band and punk rock band I just mention two that are 100% influenced them! Saves the Day & The Stereo. I link one song from both band and I'm sure you'll be familiar with them.
I linked 4 songs. 2 songs that is from bands that inspired them and 2 songs from FOB and you'll hear the similarity! (I hope the links will work) If not I leave here you the song names and band names. (The Stereo - New Tokyo Is calling, FOB - Saturday).
I'm sure Michael Jackson, Metallica, The Get Up Kids are influenced them too! And many other bands punk rock bands Ramones, Sex Pistols, Black Flag, Pennywise, Blink 182, Green Day...
How they got their Name?
Pete and Patrick said they chose the name from The Simpsons. There was a fictional superhero character called Fall Out Boy and they were obsessed with The Simpsons and liked the name as well. We're not see many bands with own creative name. Most of them are name the band after a movie or putting words together for example: Cold, Play --> Coldplay. Or just putting a random number after the name --> Blink-182. Again there's a lot of different way to become a musician there's no only one way there's 91649141914 way! And there's a lot of way and method to write a music or name a band as well! Just be creative and make sure it's not already taken!!!
The Final Lineup
So after Andy the drummer joined in 2003 they dropped actually 2 album. But they don't count the very first. Evening Out With Your Girlfriend (2003), Take This To Your Grave (2003). When we're talking about FOB's first and debut album we only mention TTTYG because that album kickstarted their career. As I mentioned the fireside bowl earlier they played a buncha gig there from 2003. In 2001 and 2002 they weren't big enough and they didn't have enough fan to play there. That's why they had to play at skate park, Open Mic Nights, Garage... But after they dropped TTTYG in 2003 that litearlly changed the band's life and career. They started to go on tour and play at bigger venues. And by 2003 FOB had hundreds of fans all over the country. In 2004 they joined to Vans Warped Tour where they played in front of thousands of people. Fun Fact Warped tour helped to kickstar many other band's career back then and still!
I link a few hit and single from the album TTTYG:
After the tour they went to the studio to record their major label in 2005, From Under The Cork Tree (2005). They get signed to a major label as many bands did in order to get bigger and bigger. In 2005 they weren't play in arenas they weren't big enough yet. They played at big venues and still used their white van they didn't have own team who set up their gear and transport. FUTCT was just as successful as TTTYG!
I link a few single and hit from FUTCT:
Infinity On High (2007)
The album Infinity On High was the absolute break through for the band! By 2007 Everyone know FOB all over the world. They started playing in movie (Appearance: Sex Drive (2007)), commercials, own merch, own team who helped them carry their instrument, they had a lot of pro contract, own tour bus and so on. They could feel that they're successful band in the world and they made it although that wasn't their main goal they started the band from fun! I won't mention their net worth by 2007 but they were already rich by 2007 like come on Pete had lamborghini own house, super cars, own merch, own signature bass from fender and not just pete had own signature guitars Joe and Patrick had one. Andy the drummer had a pro endorsement with Sabian Cymbals and C&C custom drums. In one word: They were rich and famous af and they could break anything the next day they got new one for FREE!
I link a few song and hit from IOH as well:
Plus their heaviest song is belong to here from IOH:
You may not found this heavy but compared to their style and songs it's enough heavy! I LOVE IT btw xd
FOB logo
They have a log that is a bat. They chose this logo because of Pete. Pete as a kid was freaked out of horror movies and bats and everything that is related to vampires... He had nightmares of vampires, bats, horror movies and skeletons!
Of course during their career changed the logo!! But this logo is also Pete brand's logo called clandestine industries Which is still active but they're not making cool zippers and hoodies anymore! Back in 2005 they made the best zippers and hoodies with these logos!
I'm still obsessed with these zippers.
The other 3 band member are invested to Pete's business as well. And they wore his stuff as well. Basically that was the Original FOB merch back in 2005.
Before they dropped IOH in 2007 they played 3 shows in one day. New York, Chicago & Los Angeles. They promoted their album in 2006 December before Christmas but I'm not sure maybe it was in 2007 January. MTV made an interview with them doing these 3 shows in one day under 18 hours!!! They played a few singles from the up coming album....
Their Parents Opinion
Of course their parents are proud of them but in the very beginning they didn't support them. In my opinion that's a normal parent reaction and mindset. Their parents are always asked them when will you get a normal job? They didn't know that they're going to make it and they'll be rich and famous. Of course after they saw that their sons are playing big shows and getting payed they were proud them but still there was the question... :D Their parents are only listened to their song bc their sons were in it. Pete once said: "My mum is only listens to FOB because I play in it. But I'm not sure about my dad of course he listens to some song but he's not as much obsessed as my mum. She's get in the car and put the CD in". And all of the boys said the same that their parents listen to FOB because they play on the song which is normal from a parent. Thank god their parents were supportive at least Pete's mum. Unfortunately I don't have information about the other 3 boys' parents.
There's a short documentary about FOB and Pete's mum giving interview it's worth it to check it out! :
Thank You!
