In Defense of Tall Boots

I wear these boots.

My hunting boots.

They are engineer style Redhead Lubbock hunting boots. I wear them to do farm work, to hunt, to hike, and to do about anything you need proper, sturdy footwear to do. The point is, low or high-top boots are unsatisfactory, and even worse, inefficient. All these low or high-top hiking and workboots just don't make sense. Maybe you wear them when you do outdoorsman activities, but I don't think I could. I think knee-high boots should make a comeback, and I'd like to defend their use.

  • The main reason I like high boots is because they protect your pant knee-down, so it's harder to rip or dirty the calf part of your pants.
  • You can manipulate, push and move things with your feet helped by better vertical support and without worry of ruining your pants or ankle.
  • They provide a lot of support, especially if they're made for hunting and hiking.
  • My favorite part is that it's much harder to kick things into your boots, so rocks, snow or sand doesn't easily get in, for example, the boots above that I wear are advertised to keep out snakes when walking through brush.
  • They look pretty cool.

All of these things are also exemplified during winter, when, I would say, tall boots are even more efficient.

These are the boots I'll be getting for winter:

L.L. Bean Main Hunting duckboots.

They're L.L. Bean Main 16" hunting duckboots/shoes.

Also, shout out to the chain-link sole design of these boots:

You don't see knee tall boots worn much anymore outside of equestrianism, fishing, and English hunting traditions, and I think that's a shame. The closest thing I see are cowboy boots, but everyone wears their pants over them. They are just so much more efficient. I suppose it doesn't matter, since it's up to opinion, and if you don't care or have tough pants, you don't necessarily need the calf protection. I just like seeing examples of back in the day when this style of boot was the norm, and I guess I just really like this style of boot.

This is a subject no one wanted and no one asked for, but it was in my head and I don't know what to write a blog post about so here you go.

Thanks for reading.
