goth and punk subculture yap

I absolutely hate when "goth" or "punk" people make excuses for being (and I hate this word but) posers. mfs will buy from shien temu and hot topic (and other fast fashion places) and cites and claim to be apart of the subculture when they just aren't.

goth and punk were founded on politics and the music follows the politics and the most known punk thing is to not overconsume. there are MANYY cites and places to thrift more ethically and yet they make so many excuses to not. I always see people say "they're aren't any goth clothes at my thrifts" or "thrifts are getting too expensive" but do these people think goths in the 80s used shien?? unless you get very lucky you probably won't find perfect goth/punk clothes at thrifts which is why you DIY. as for it getting too expensive you don't need new clothes every week you don't need to constantly get new items to make your punk wardrobe. it often takes many years to get a full goth wardrobe and that's okay!! not only okay but expected!

some people also say they're just isn't thrifts near them which (in my opinion ig) is just Ignorance. there are many online second hand apps and websites for everything such as depop vinted and Craigslist.

I've also seen people say "oh these gatekeeping punks will tell you to DIY but won't tell you how" that's because your supposed to get creative! goth and punk is about straying from the norm so just paint random shit on your clothes even if it sucks. there's sewing, embroidery, paint, bleach painting, markers, patches, and so much else. and if you really can't think or anything you can literally google how to do it or search it on YouTube and or TikTok. it's not rocket science to use a needle and thread. (and personally the more fucked up it looks the more punk) PS: idk if ts should be marked fashion or politics so uhh
