HIIIIII so songs of origin js came out, this is my first time theorising smth tho (my only experience is watching game theory) soooo its probably gonna be bad but o well
BTW im not like SUPER knowledgable on yaelokre lore only a few reddit threads, some unofficial yt videos, some of their tiktoks and their yt posts so pls correct me if i get anything wrong!!
this will be part one in a 3-4 part series (maybe more)!!!!
this theory is kinda js like deciphering the trailer!!
IM GOING OFF THE BASIS THAT KEATH IS A CANON CHARACTER BTW AND NOT JS KINDA YAELOKRES SELF INSERT?? LIKE A PERSONA? IM NOT SURE
lets start>>>>
"what once was a hamlet,
left to play pretend
remained a scarecrow
a hen
and a leveret"
OKKKK so its like a hamlet (village) with lots of life, is then "left to play pretend" which idk rlly know what that would mean but then it says "remained" which probably means they all died. the scarecrow is probably the storyteller, i think the hen is the croon cuz i heard somewhere its a bird (i thought it was an elk but this is the only thing i have to go off lol), and the leveret is probably the harpy hare.
"far fled the croon to fly for its mother
to promise to reave life
to make way for another"
so, not sure what its making way for, but the croons probably gonna kill smth or someone bc it says "reave life" (had to look that one up lol) - which would follow cuz it i heard it represents chaos
"'if this were destined
then i shall not question
though now you must tell me..
why was it not taken?'
says she to the harker"
this is the croon's mother, saying to the harker (most likely the croon, but she could also be addressing the storyteller) she will not question what happened to the hamlet. i think the "it" she is referring to is the harpy hare, or maybe keath, but im not sure who is taking it.
"'the child does not belong here!' answered the storyteller. "take it far, give it a name! places forget, stories remember."
the child might be Keath, but it also might be the harpy hare (leveret). in both the case that its keath or that its the harpy hare, the storyteller is encouraging them to make up a story for it.
"and with that final verse delivered
goodbyes were sealed.
this is a song of origin,
my farewells to the fields."
OOOOO KAY so this is a lot to unpack, the "goodbyes were sealed" bit i think means that nobody remembers the true story (haha thats meta im really struggling to decipher this poetic retelling myself) and that it is now sealed in a cage of words, a story. at this point we're shown cole saying this basically proving that they're telling us it, and also implying it's their song of origin, which basically proves "the child" is keath not the harpy hare (can never be sure tho with these) bc they're like a predecessor to the lark. "my farewells to the fields" i think is cole disaccosiating theirself with the storyteller kinda? idrk, please tell me what u think in the comments
lol thanks for reading, next one is on farewells to the fields (coming tmrw, or maybe sunday!!)
pls give me tips on theorycrafting lol
