I'm currently a junior in high school, so it's time that I start thinking about what I want to do after high school. Due to the economic state of our country right now, I fear that I will never be able to pursue my dream job. I want to become an ornithologist, however they make very little money. The average income for an American ornithologist is a little over $60k. Granted, that's good money!
However, I am constantly pressured by my family about going into the medical field. Doctors and nurses are seen as more successful in life while ornithologists aren't even thought of. My mother and grandmother, a.k.a my Asian side of the family, urge me to go into the medical field so that I'll become something great + the money. Yet I think I would be incredibly unhappy. I'd be working for years for a job that'll start off rough and never get better. I genuinely think my depression would become worse! Meanwhile, becoming an ornithologist would heal me. I love birds too much..
Am I simply delusional? I'm not sure what field I should look into.
