As much as I love clementines and oranges, I think there's a little girl in me who holds a pea.
She adores that pea.
When I was in the first grade, my teacher had a mini shelf full of books for us to read during break time. The first book I remember reading was a picture book called "Little Pea" and it was about a family of peas. The son pea did not want to eat his dessert (in this pea world, children peas treat dessert like children humans treat vegetables, they don't want to eat the yucky stuff). The father pea and the mother pea explain to the little pea how little peas should eat the stuff that makes them bigger, even if they find it distasteful. They eventually coax their son to eat by promising a big helping of greens. (I did question the ethics of a pea eating other vegetables. Was it cannibalism?) I ended up enjoying the book so much, I'd ask my teacher at the time to let me borrow it for the day everyday. Now, I want to be an author.
I adore that teacher.
