Prepared myself for you to go
Took down every polaroid holding your name
Words were always my way of a middle ground
Trying to hold the war close
A claim rebutting against my morals
An unwilling spectator resenting the crowned
Lived through troughs of hidden refluxes
While we’d built reflexes to drown you out
Shook out every shiver, you’d supply the sound
A word to hold back a beating heart
Found where your mind connected
Cut through the chain links you’d guarded
Precursing safety over the idea of a new servant
Leaving me in the wreckage
And I’d wish I could feed your brain to the birds
Bury the changes deep
Relive the substitutions we’d built our fort upon
And your dam around
With my creations cracking through the rising floods
You with the dark curls,
I hope you never take me to where you need to go
And I hope that’s far away from here
