heath reviews - strawberri

strawberri is the 2019 album of artist birdbath (now known as gjallarhornit) this album is really near and dear to my heart and i have memories of being in school with my headphones in listening to his album so i am a bit biased... anyway this album was very popular among fans back in the day and the song killstreak on spotify alone had nearly 300k streams before the album being taken down a year or 2 ago admits the negative xp/school shooter which i dont want to go in too deeply but shooter was taking down covers of his songs and anything related to his music that wasnt him and strawberri contains a cover of one of "his" songs calendar girl which is actually one of his songs but this is all speculation since neither shooter nor birdbath have spoken on the matter to my knowledge but this is what i assume since a similar thing happened to fried by fluoride after his cover album got taken down due to a negative xp cover but i guess we will never know if anyone knows more info please comment below!!! anyway onto the actual review i love a lot of these songs a lot but my personal favourites being doom 1996 and summer said they just feel so nostalgic and everything i want about music the description of it being lofi demos is mostly accurate of the production of the album but that is really why i love it the experimental rough style of the album really makes me love it more this album i love the usage of synths along with guitars a lot of the songs actually interpolate teen suicide and birdbath's music is really reminiscent of teen suicide which people have used as a criticism of him but i think that is really sweet and an honour to be compared to them and the mixing of the vocals is so perfect im sorry if im going on a bit too much how i love it but this album is so amazing!!!!!! im really not doing the album justice describing it so you should really go out and listen for yourself you can find it on bandcamp officially as well as on soundcloudΒ archived maybe by some stroke of fate birdbath will see this review and reupload it to spotify which would be amazing!!!!! but anyway please go off and listen to this for yourself i cant recommend it enough!!!

my song rankings would be:

1. doom 1996

2. summer said

3. calendar girl

4. killstreak

5. moon

6. cool kids

7. ghost

8. lived and outlivedΒ

9. acid bath

10. acid rabbitΒ

even though i had to rank them 1-10 i think they all are amazing and once again i really encourage you to listen to this album it played a massive part in my early teens my official biased rating would probably be an 9.5/10 i just love it so much and it has played a massive part in my life and still go back to listen today although maybe a new listener wouldnt relate...Β

anyone else heard the album or just want to talk please comment below i would love to hear about it and if anyone has more info on the album being taken down!!!!

For a long time I think that the genre being named incelcore has always put me off from it a bit - I'm not sure what I expected it to sound like but I guess I always assumed incelcore was a lot more metal-ish and scream-ish than it really is. A lot of the songs here reminded me of indie rock or singer-songwriter music I've heard and loved before except these are a bit less polished, and in return feel a lot more urgent and emotionally honest.... really really lovely.
The song calendar girl especially reminded me a lot of The Strokes whom I used to listen to a lot in high school just like you would sort of - in a way I feel your nostalgic element even if I've never listened to this music before! It's really a shame that it's not on Spotify anymore but I'll try and add it to my local files, I think that your two favourite songs were the ones I liked the most as well.

the whole incelcore thing can put off a lot of potential fans i think that was why the genre was renamed epunk then rerenamed incelcore again and a lot of the songs especially by birdbath are really indie esque so it makes sense i have also seen a lot of incelcore songs tagged as surf rock and i think a lot of them really fit that especially pacific purgatory and i really like the lyricism of a lot of these songs even if they may be vulnerable or cringe..... and im so glad you could feel the sense of nostalgia i felt when listening i think it just has that iconic feeling that anyone could feel that maybe i will check out the strokes if they are like birdbath!!!! and im so sad its no longer on spotify but i can suffice with local files and i hope you managed to as well im so glad you enjoyed the same ones!!! thank you for reading my review!!!!
