Scene Clothes Brand Masterlist + Guide to Thrifting/Shopping

I dont rly consider myself a scene queen on here, but apparently many ppl do (side eye ¬_¬) , as I see TONS N TONS of ppl in my secret share, blogs, and generally just on here asking the same question:

" Where can I find cool scene clothes ? "

Now, a very common answer to this everyone receives is "go thrifting," and while it is good advice, what kind of brands should you look for while thrifting? Or better yet, where do the cool scene clothes others find while thrifting even come from?

Well im here 2 help :P

Even though not all these brands may be available to buy online, when ur out thrifting or on secondhand clothing sites, look for these brands!!!

How to Use

Click the dropdown menus under each category to open a list! Hover over the bolded + underlined ones to open links! (not all have links tho lol dont be fooled)

All comments n kudos r greatly appreciated!! <33

Price range:

$ = cheap

$$ = moderately cheap

$$$ = expensive

*there may be some brands that do not have links as they are out of business. however, they may still be sold online but for INSANELY high prices.

u can look for them on ur own volition :]

BRANDS!

Jessica Louise$$$ - Maker of the famous Avril striped tank! Has tons of animal print and striped clothes.

Cupcake Cult$$-$$$ (to even like; into 1000 USD for limited edition og sweaters) - Famous for their cringey, gorey, crunk-looking shirts. MOST OF THE ONES YOU FIND ONLINE ARE OF THEIR NEWEST LINE; THEY ARE NOWHERE NEAR LIKE THE ORIGINAL SHIRTS. You can find the og shirts on Ebay, Poshmark, Mercari, wherever u can order secondhand clothes. UR BEST BET TO FIND THE OGS ARE IN THRIFT STORES, BUT ITS POSSIBLE TO BUY FROM ONLINE IF YOURE WILLING TO SPEND CLOSE TO 100 BUCKS :')

VampireFreaks$$ - An og brand that used to be a chat site; has TONS of alt looking clothes, not just scene but also emo + goth + punk stuff too! Has accessories and even some designs from Clawed Beauty which I find supa neat :)

however, be aware that they DO sell stuff from killstar, a brand that is not only fast fashion but is problematic in the sense of the way they treat their workers + other factors (see section on brands to avoid below).

i suggest trying to buy designs from independent artists on that site as well as the older lines.

InvaderScene$$ - Relatively new shop that popped up on Depop :) tons of new scene clothes! [they have a spacehey account too so check em out there as well] (they ship worldwide too!!)

Betsey Johnson$ to $$$ (depending on where you're buying them from) - MOSTLY FOR ACCESSORIES! I actually own a couple things from them! The online store itself is like.. pretty expensive but their halloween collection is super neat. You can usually find a ton of their stuff thrifting; thats how I found some of my purses + wallets :D

Pawstar $$$ - SUPER EXPENSIVE IF ORDERED ONLINE! Raver clothes, but can also pass as scene. They have tons of accessories + animal ears and tails and stuff, so if ur into that sorta style then they got those too! [check out their jewelry tho bc they have some cute things!! :D]

Freedomravewear - $ to $$ (DID NOT LINK AS THEY DO SELL SOME THINGS THAT MAY GO AGAINST ToS IN TERMS OF NSFW CLOTHES; SEARCH AT YOUR OWN RISK.) - Rave wear, but many of the things in the accessories tab can also be styled in a scene outfit. Arm warmers, leggings, jumpers, hoodies, etc.

Tokidoki$$ - now this is a must :) the toys, the accessories, the shirts, all of it! scroll down a bit in the clothes sections tho since most of the newer items arent as fitting to scene style.

Gesshoku $$ - HAS VARIOUS SUBGENRES OF CLOTHES! if you go into the tab on the left, you can find stuff for vkei, goth, or kawaiicore clothes, but the things on the site that are most stylable in the scene fashion are under pastel goth tab.

Mighty Fine$$ - Used to have a big line of invader zim + 2000s shows shirts. Most of their newer shirts are lower quality, but you can find the og shirts on Ebay and Poshmark. They usually cost a hefty amount.

Drop Dead!$$$ - VERY expensive to buy online; similar to cupcake cult--have pretty gorey + crunky looking graphics on their tees. Their recent stuff is pretty bad quality, so you have to go onto ebay + mercari to find better stuff. (sometimes u can find some of their shirts thrifting tho!! some of my online friends have had good luck finding those shirts there :D)

Hot Topic$$-$$$ - Of course, the site we all love lmao. in-store and online, they'll cost an okay amount, but its still pretty overpriced. However, dont just look for clothes from modern hot topic! On secondhand places online or in thrift stores, u can find discontinued items and exclusive stuff. However, they cost quite a bit (anywhere from ~100-1K USD i think). be aware that newer lines are considered fast fashion, so buy w moderation + keep that in mind when shopping directly from their website and current lines.

My best bet for hot topic is to buy from thrift stores. yall will NEVER KNOW HOW MANY STUFF IVE FOUND FROM HOT TOPIC THAT HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED!! ;v; i have like; 2 skirts, a shirt, and a hoodie that are all considered "rare" now, and i got them for very cheap! I dont even have a hot topic store near me dude.

Spencers$$-$$$ - Also be wary with this site as they also sell things that go against SpaceHey ToS in terms of NSFW clothing items + merchandise. Didn't link the site cuz some of those things are present on the homepage at times.

Another classic; less expensive than Hot Topic for the most part. Have tons of graphic tees, accessories, belts, n cool stuff. You can also find more trashy looking things here that aren't at hot topic, including LOTS of playboy bunny logo clothes + accessories.

U can also find a ton of stuff thrifting from them :D got a cool shirt for like 1/3 the price theyre sold online. also, be aware that some of their newer lines can be considered fast fashion, so keep an eye out for discontinued lines.

dELiA*s$-$$ - went out of business a while back; has tons of cool animal print + y2k hoodies and ragwear sweaters. DONT BUY THE DOLLS KILL ONES. (for context, dolls kill is a self-proclaimed alt clothes haven, however, they steal a LOT of designs from smaller creators, as well as making very racist shirt designs (ie. "goth is white"), as well as being fast fashion. for more info, check here or read my section on clothes to avoid below)

You can find ACTUAL dELiA*s clothes on amazon, ebay, and mercari, as well as in thrift stores.

Juicy Couture$$$ - VERY expensive, but very OG. A bit mcbling and trashy y2k style, but if you poke around the website every now and then or check resell sites that sell older lines of their clothes, you may find something w colourful zebra or leopard print that will suit the scene style!

Self Esteem$-$$ - also went out of business a ways back, but has been revamped into a more natural coloured aesthetic clothes site. If you want the original neon animal print clothes, check mercari and poshmark.

Vans (old lines)$$ - DO NOT GO LOOKING ON THE WEBSITE; THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY OF THE CLOTHES UR LOOKING FOR LOL. if you go looking for older released lines of clothes vans has made, some have cool shirts and hoodies if ur into the more skater scene kid typa clothes.

PINK by Victorias secret (old lines)$$$ - also cost a hefty amount, but discontinued y2k PINK hoodies and shirts. Many of these can be found rly commonly at thrift stores, have seen a ton in both the US and in Europe, but online, these can cost anywhere from 100-500 USD.

Old Glory$$-$$$ - music merch and general pop culture stuff. Pretty hefty price nowadays as well as pretty limited selection, but if you poke around for older line stuff, you may find ragwear hoodies and shirts, cool pants, and accessories that have been discontinued.

Too Fast$$$ - new age alt clothes; has a ton of goth + witchy clothes, but there are some tops + pants that could be style AWESOMELY as a scene fit!

Sourpuss$$ - Sells creepy-cute aesthetic clothing, can also be styled w scene clothes. Have awesome graphic tees + sometimes sell really neat looking socks [u can check other sites like rock em socks and sockologie for their socks; they have knee high + thigh high ones that come in super cool patterns]

Bruised Boutique$-$$ - rollerskating apparel shop; also sells really neat knee high socks, sunglasses, and cool graphic tees + tanks [only under the apparel tab tho; if u wanna check out their rollerskates tho they have an AWESOME selection]

Keep a Breast $ - the iconic "i love boobies" rubber bracelet accessories that were A RLY BIG HIT back in da day :3 they still sell em now and buying them goes 2 a good cause too! if ur parents are iffy at first, just know that all proceeds go to breast cancer research :3

Sanrio official site$-$$ - tons of sanrio stuff all in one place at a reasonable price (usually MUCH lower than hot topic prices). u can also browse by character too! they have TONS of stuff that would go awesome w scene fits

Lisa Frank$$-$$$ - u can find some of this brand clothes off of the site, but be wary of scammers. I actually own a lot of Lisa Frank stuff so when I remembered ab my stuff i thought this would b a perfect addition to this list! Iconic rainbow animal print and SUPER neon coloured accessories and shoes! tons of good finds from her brand on ebay as well.

Walmart/No Boundaries$ - I know some of you guys may be questioning me on this, but TRUST ME. Not only are they eco friendly and a sustainable clothing brand, but theyre SUPER high quality and some of my clothes have lasted me multiple years. [ALSO THEY HAVE THEIR NEW HALLOWEEN LINE OUT SO BE SURE 2 CHECK IT OUT!!! [they have international shipping now!] No boundaries sells a lot of character merch + y2k looking stuff

Abbey Dawn  $$-$$$ - Avril Lavigne's clothing line. They dont sell too many of their original items, so I have not linked this one here. Check on Ebay and Poshmark for rly cool items. Some people dont know the rarity of the clothing items and sell them for cheap. Other times, stuff may cost ~100 USD if it’s a rare hoodie or a custom.

Little Miss Matched $ - TONS of super cute mismatched aesthetic clothes THAT ARE PERFECT FOR DA SCENE STYLE!!! have cute shirts, socks, and other stuff :3 if u go onto ebay or poshmark, theres some of their older lines selling for cheap too if ur looking for actual clothes from the 2000s.

Cable & Gauge$-$$ - older lines have very y2k looking sweaters + shirts. newer lines are a bit more "beige mom" aesthetic, but if u do alot of digging online u may find some animal print sweaters + striped emo sweaters for VERY cheap! [i have one myself :P]

Justice$ - the ICONIC tween shop; still has a ton of rly rly cute clothes and for a relatively good price :3 u can also usually find em in ur local american mall! check out older lines if ur lookin for a more mcbling or myspace era scene look, but the online store has lots of neon leggings, jeans, + cool skirts as well as tie dye sweaters :3

So So Happy! $$-$$$ - lil cringey graphic hoodies n tees :3 they dont have any stores open online anymore, so u gotta find em on other sites or while thrifting!

Famous Stars and Straps $$-$$$ - founded by Travis Barker from blink-182, believe it or not lol. the line has been inactive/on hiatus for a while now, so the best u can find rn is secondhand stores. They have tons of cool graphic tees n hoodies :3

GENERAL TIPS FOR THRIFTING AND CLOTHES TO LOOK FOR WHILE OUT SHOPPING

- things with colourful animal print! [ie. zebra print, leopard print]

- striped long sleeve shirts to layer

- striped tank tops + camisoles

- colourful jean shorts or long pants [preferably skinny jeans, but if you are not comfortable with the way they feel or dont have em in ur area, normal bootcut or flared are awesome too!]

- jeans with patches, sequins, or designs [THESE ARE SOOO COMMONLY OVERLOOKED OML.]

- shirts w cringey graphics!

- neon coloured long sleeve shirts [to layer under short sleeved ones or to wear by themselves]

- clothes with skulls

- rubber bracelets

- shutter shades and funky looking sunglasses

- jelly bracelets

- bright coloured leggings

- unique patterned leggings

- neon and black striped tights and fingerless gloves

- neon colour fishnet tights and fingerless gloves

- twofer shirts and sweaters

- checkered and studded belts

- colourful or patterned shoelaces

- chunky necklaces or necklaces w character charms

- colourful or patterned bows

- seatbelt buckle belts [these usually have cool patterns on em]

- things w diamond patterns!

- accessories + belt buckles with brass knuckles on em!

- character hoodies or hoodies with ears + faces!

- I CANT STRESS ENOUGH, IF STORES AROUND U HAVE HALLOWEEN SALES GOING ON, GO BUY SHIT!!! halloween is PRIME TIME for stores 2 sell creepy cute shirts, stripey accessories, striped tights, spooky bows, U NAME IT!! :D

Keywords for online shopping!

scene, y2k, leopard print, zebra print, animal print, ragwear, 2000s, striped, emo, rhinestone, crunk, myspace, raver, crunkcore, halloween, rawr, jessica louise, avril lavigne, abbey dawn, faux fur trim, skull, trashy y2k, mcbling, neon, invader zim, fluorescent, diamond, zombie, brass knuckle

+ all the brands + characters I listed above!! :)

fun fact: many sellers categorise scene fashion under other fashion types (most of the time, emo, raver, or mcbling) , so usually when ur looking for scene stuff online, u can almost always follow whatever pattern or character ur looking for w "emo" and you'll find something thats more scene :3 thats how i found tonz of my shirts online lol.

also!! dont b afraid 2 just search up a general type of clothing, like "shirt" or "skirt" or somth. and follow it with a keyword!

if you have the option, sort by material, colour + price from lowest to highest :3 sometimes ppl dont know the value of the things they are selling, and this way, u can find someth that suits your style but may be somewhere in the murky depths of Ebay or mercari or sum place.

BRANDS TO AVOID!!

Alt fashion is centred around ethical clothing brands (or brands that were ethical). Scene is a part of alt subcultures, but has more making stuff yourself and renewing things that are old into something trendy. Reuse somethin that already existed or even make it better. [ie. heavy emphasis on DIY and thrifting.]

Supporting fast fashion when you are aware of what damage it does AND you have the option to thrift or buy sustainable clothes goes against the morals of alt culture.

** i understand that not everyone has the budget to buy brand clothes, or doesn't have the opportunity to thrift or DIY. and that is alright! just try and limit what you buy from these brands, as they present themselves as "alt" clothing producers, but are actually not very "alt" in their morals at all.

- Dollskill (design theft from small artists and businesses, fast fashion + unsustainable clothing production, as well as promoting harmful things such as self harm + racism in some of their designs.)

- SHEIN (fast fashion, unethical treatment of workers, unsustainable clothing production, low quality, stolen designs, and unhealthy chemicals in fabrics.)

- Temu (if you dont know already, fast fashion, poor treatment of workers, and discredited by the Better Business Bureau)

- RebelsMarket (scams, stolen designs and photos, sellers are not compensated correctly for their work.)

- Devilinspired (scams, stolen photos, receive their inventory from TaoBao which is a fast fashion corporation [TaoBao is actually labelled as a "notorious market" in the USA due to counterfeit stuff])

- Romwe (fast fashion, deceptive advertising, labour abuse + human rights violations)

- KillStar (fast fashion, unethical treatment of workers, racism from the owner of the brand)

D!! I!! Y!!

1 of mah fave shirtz is just a £1.50 plain black top wiv sum fabric paint :p

u can even just get shirtz @ teh charity shop wiv kewl fabric designz even if they dont fit u so u can just cut em up and sew teh fabric on other stuff.

if u print out or draw ur design on paper n make it teh right scale u can use it as a stencil 2!!

u can make ur own designz or u can make bootlegz of ur fave shirtz u c online but can't find or afford.

also, 4 fingerless glovez, knitting is SUUUUPER easy. it'z liek peyote kandi but easier and without beadz. i liek 2 do 2 rowz of black, then 4 rowz of a colour n then end on black after 5 colour stripez using 6mm needlez. u just tie teh square edgez 2gether (leave a gap 4 ur thumb) n voila!! wool is also MEGA cheap @ charity shopz (literally every charity shop I go 2 has wool XD) but i got mine 4 free bcuz i inhereted loadz of wool from meh grandma.

some of the suggested brands are definitely fast fashion which is funny considering the unrecommended ones all are fast fashion?

Which ones?

looking back at the list, the only ones I think could be fast fashion are Hot Topic and Vampirefreaks, and also im advertising their old lines, not so much the current ones.

Thanks for letting me kno though; I may end up removing some then.

honestly thrifting for scene clothes is pretty hard to do ( from experience ) but spirit Halloween and Walmart's Halloween section has some scene clothes and another cool thing you can do is that you can get a plain shirt/tank top and paint your own design because I've seen a bunch of scene kids do that

tysm for this

and for the emphasis towards the end on thrifting & diy

i went to the mall with one of my exes hoping to satisfy some childhood/teenhood nostalgia (i'm in my early 20s), and maybe this is because i've become more and more anti-cap as i've grown but i was so disappointed to see how much of alt culture is just an endless sea of brands. i mean ofc it is and you have to have somewhere to get the clothes ik ik but i feel like alt life is about so much more than aesthetics. and maybe with social media people have forgotten that, or maybe not social media per se but other things that arrived at around the same time; call me a boomer if you must but i really LOVE making stuff n seeing other people make stuff. and obvsly people still do but i don't see it as much as i used to

is it ok to buy from temu with other stuff not clothes and occasionally clothes

I thrift a lot and buy temusometimes

Report Comment

i get wanting to use temu bc its cheap but the whole company is really unethical!! no matter if its clothes or something else, they have egregious human rights violations, like slavery for example

plus put horrible materials into their products like carcinogens or other toxic stuff.

idk what your area is like but in a lot of places there are thrift stores with prices that are equally good if not better than temu. if thats not a good option i recommend depop (online thrifting) and other similar services.
