today i realized i could use my soldering iron on plastic and immediately got to work burning holes into stuff, i'm working on mangling one of those funny transparent plastic light-up lamps into a birthday gift for my brother, will post a pic when i'm done, but unfortunately for everyone in the house i forgot that when plastic melts it releases an Evil Miasma that makes you think stupid and feel bad
room is mostly ventilated now and im picking up a respirator tomorrow so i can work on my masterpiece safely in the garage but what a trip, i've been dizzy and strung out on carcinogens for hours, i wasnt even a safe distance away while working because when i focus i hunch over really close to whatever i'm working on. like that shit was going directly from the soldering iron to my lungs and it took about an hour for the other people to notice the smell of burning plastic and interfere
i've been making found object abominations for a while now using different combinations of industrial glue and caulk and craft glue and string etc etc etc but plastic has always been a tricky medium for this cos drilling cracks it and cutting it is difficult and no tape sticks to it for long enough, welding plastic is a true gamechanger but i let my enthusiasm get the best of me today
it's not the worst thing i've inhaled but organ damage is organ damage so i will not make the same mistake twice
