If you're going to pierce yourself, the one thing you should NEVER do is use a needle that has been used. ALWAYS use new ones fresh out of the packaging and then throw them away when you're done. You don't want to risk contracting bloodborne diseases like HIV or hepatitis C (for example). Even if it visibly looks "clean" to the naked eye, the pathogens are still going to be there from the person who last used the needle.

I also wouldn't really recommend piercing yourself unless you're absolutely desperate and it's your only means of obtaining the piercing (such as if you're a minor and your parents aren't willing to let you have it done, as was the case with me and my snakebites at the age of 16). If you feel like you're about to pass out during the process (usually occurs when the needle is about half way through your lip), slow down, sit on the floor, and breathe for a minute before continuing the procedure. It's okay to take your time during the process, as taking a hollow 14g needle to your lip is easier said than done (even with a clamp). Once the procedure is finished and the jewelry has been tightened, spray your piercing with a sea salt solution.

Also, you should only use actual body jewelry in your piercing(s) (such as labret studs, particularly so for the initial jewelry worn in the piercing). Longer bars should be used for the initial jewelry (your lip WILL swell up quite a bit for a week or 2 after you pierce it) before you can downsize to shorter bars after a month or so.

hey, piercer here. absolutely do not fucking do that. you cannot sterlize that needle and no matter what you do at home that thing will still be infested with bacteria.

everything about this will cause you an infection, and oral infections are not. fun. they are extremely dangerous!!!! you cannot sterilze the 'jewlery', piercing are open wounds, putting dirty (which it is, it cant be sterelized) jewlery into that is a recipe for a dangerous infection.

putting aside that your options arent even jewlery, a paper clip is too thin, oral piercings require a thicker gauge for a reason, lips are soft and prone to snagging something like a paper clip will tear straight through at the slightest snag. meanwhile a ring binder is way too thick, you will not be able to get that through without causing extreme damage and tearing. and rings should NEVER be used to pierced with a ring, those hinges going through cause alot of damage and especially if the hinge rests in the wound, itll grow through and tear the fuck out of that piercing. both of those things will be in the way and irritating especially the ring.

this is just a stupid, and dangerous idea.

piercers know what to look for. veins, risk of oral damage, correct placement, angles, what the future plans are, etc etc. untrained people do not know about any of this stuff

hey soo like since you're a piercer i would like to ask some questions
is there anything i have to know before getting snake bites?

what is the pain range and how dangerous is it going to be?
note: im like 15 years old, idm waiting if im too young for those

well, on the age thing it really depends on the studio, different studios will have different rules on age limits.

but make your intentions for the piercings clear, like if you want rings make sure the piercer is aware of that. some older piercers position labrets lower than what the more typical placement is these days, so make sure the placements you confirm are actually what you want.

no smoking, drinking, or vaping at all during the healing, alcohol dries the piercings out, NOT GOOD. vaping and smoking have alot of chemicals which are extremly bad for the healing, all can cause thrush.also no mouthwash with alcohol, the alcohol and flavours are too strong.

they should neverrrr be pierced with rings! lips swell a lot, and rings don't have that allowance for swelling, and if they did that ring would be huge and would be extremely irritating and super susceptible to snagging, and risk chipping teeth. If there's no room for swelling that ring can slice through the lip, or even cause rejection. and skin can grow through the hinge and rips every time it spins.
