yesterday i got invited by my college to go visit one of buenos aires' most luxurious hotels. i didn't even know it existed at all, which is quite embarrassing. the entire week has been sunny and nice, but today of all days we had a huge thunderstorm with hail and everything, luckily i managed to get inside the lobby before it got too bad. a woman from HR received us all and after a while started guiding us through the hotel, mere seconds after starting the chef and some bell boys all greeted us with a "bonjour". "wait," i thought "is this a french hotel?" and yeah, it was! the guide told us that all employees are mandated to greet every guest in french, which i thought was quite amusing. given my fixation with the language and er- the dreams i have regarding france, and why i have them, the fact that in the very next room a song which has a very specific meaning to me happened to be playing really took me by surprise, i strongly felt it was a sign.
but anyway, she walked us through the bar, some lounges, the restaurant, the patisserie, several dining areas in general, and then we proceeded to the gym, pool, and eventually -of course- the guest rooms. the floors were lined with a gorgeous deep violet carpet, and the decor was very sober and elegant. at one point in the middle of the tour, she took us to a boardroom, where we all sat (me at the header!) and she showed us a presentation which talked about the hotel's values, sustainability, and such PR things. she told us that this was mostly a corporate hotel, which also meant that it wasn't really kids friendly at all and that they actually dreaded when a family decided to stay there since it meant lots of noise and general annoyance (loved their honesty). what really piqued my interest though, was her mentioning that since this is a french hotel, almost every single french tourist, every single french businessman, every french corporation, they all decide to stay there instead of the other luxury hotels around the city. ha... haha. wew. my mind was spinning at this point (je crois que tu sais pourquoi, non? peut-etre une chance de pour fin te rencontrer?), but the other thing she mentioned that completely sealed the deal for me was
the fact that they were hiring inexperienced people. that they genuinely did not care if you had never worked a day in your life before, and she put great emphasis on this, that all they wanted was people that simply wanted to work and were motivated, and had no problem training them. someone asked if speaking french was a requirement, to which the guide replied that it used to be but not anymore, because finding someone that spoke french was almost impossible, sometimes even finding someone who spoke fluid english was hard enough, but that was a requirement that they would not bend. "but of course, if by some miracle we do find someone who speaks proper english AND french, even if a little bit, that'd be a huge bonus and they'd be more likely to be hired"
i......... I-------
GOD
i couldn't stop smiling at this point, what's this heaven-dream sent???????
- willingness to hire inexperienced students/people
- speaking french makes you more likely to be hired
- no kids
- constant stream of french people
i got home, took a shower, and as soon as i got out i messaged my college's job coordinator and told her how much i loved this place and that it would be a dream to get a job here. told her about my lack of previous work experience and if she could help me polish my cv and she agreed! she actually said she was very moved to see me so motivated!
and if all goes well, if she does help me, if i do send my cv, if i do get in...... god
the job will be absolutely hellish, that i know, hospitality gets almost no breaks
but imagine my very first job being in a fucking 5 star luxury french hotel????????? holy shit
my mom asked me if i could pray to any of my gods for help, and i thought of Lord Zeus, who not only is the god of thunder but also of hospitality, and then it hit me... the entire week was sunny and today of all days we had a huge thunderstorm. i... and the song... and... god.
i need to get this job, i need to work here, i just... i feel it, no matter how hard it'll be if i do get in, this is the breakthrough i need, it's perfect for me, everything aligns so well.
