album of the week - the mosaic by capstan

I can't even begin to say how much this album simply consumed me this summer. I had been looking forward to the next capstan release since I first saw them live in January with Holding Absence. I'm shocked that I wasn't aware of them before that, somehow, but better late than never, right? In my substack blog post on Cabaret Core I was excited to hear Capstan's new album and what influences it takes from the Cabaret-esque sound of the 2010s, and I was not disappointed. I'm always down to hear piano mixed with 7-string riffs. Apparently the album turned out longer than they expected, but I'm glad they got carried away in creativity. The song I chose from this album for my profile is Empire because... dang. That song is good. It happens to address something that's almost always on my mind.
