fuuuuck yesss guitar time

today for the first time in like 3 years i cleaned my guitars and gave them new strings and i forgot how good it can feel to have fresh strings and clean fretboards

my bass is REFLECTIVE she's so CLEAN

the bass is the biggest victory tbqh i love playing bass more than any other stringed instrument because its so big and gentle and i haven't been able to play bass because the strings broke

when you snap a guitar string it whips out and GETS you on the face or arm which HURTS

when you snap a bass string it gently unfurls as if letting go of its last memories before slinking off the guitar. they're also just a better handfeel to hold like thats an entire cable very material very present

guitar strings especially light gauge are like horse hairs they are temperamental and unknowable

now the only thing to do on my music fix-it list is to fix the pickups and wiring on my harmony (besides find out what's up with the knobs on the bass guitar- it's my ex gf's and she loveddddd to smash guitars so it's in less than ideal shape, one knob is knocked off with just the peg remaining and one knob is just.... a hole)

harmony fix-it is not an immediate need but when she's playable again i will finally know peace

here are my guitars and their names/situations so you know i'm one of those bona fide music jackasses who genuinely get attached to their beasts of burden

acoustic (seagull): birdie, she's been smashed a little thanks to my less-than-lovely ex and put together thanks to my quasi-ex but still plays wonderfully, very warm and round-sounding, didn't need any tune-ups today but i want to eventually figure out a way to embellish the duct tape she's held together with

ibanez: izzie, bought secondhand from an old friend who was playing it when i met them, very sharp and clear, my standard-form chords and lead guitar, i keep the action low and the strings really light so i can mess around with tapping and hammer-ons without giving myself injuries

ibanez bass: wendy, another divorce guitar from my ex, she's missing a few knobs and has a lot of scratches and dents from smashing situations but she's SUPER resilient and has no body/neck damage, plays great and is currently so shiny after being coated with stickers for years

harmony h8-03: Q (like the star trek villain), this one i inherited from my dad, it was his when he was my age and means quite a lot to me, its pickups wiring and pick guard are in pretty bad shape and has been out of commission for like 4 years at this point, its rigged up to have light/heavy string arrangement, like really tappy low gauge strings on top with bass strings near the bottom, hoping to make some nice drone sounds with her later on and potentially frankenstein a little extra stuff on, i think it would be really fun to have some kind of tape deck or rhythm machine included on the body somewhere, my most precious project guitar on indefinite sick leave from performing who will someday rise from the grave and radiate pure strange excellence

i really want a six or seven string bass so i can pull some thundercat or les claypool level action but first i would need to get on their level, i dont deserve a tricked out bass yet and frankly i think wendy would feel a little neglected. she needs love in these trying times

i'd also really really love some kind of mandolin or 12-string acoustic because god Damn do they sound cool but again. im not that good of a rhythm or lead guitarist yet that's for tried and true bards with money and prestige
