team present, off the hook, and splatoon

i LOVED grandfest!!! i believe its the best way to say goodbye to all these characters to move onto new ones. i took so many screenshots and videos, but im glad theyre letting you go back to it with idol amiibos ^_^

for this blog post, i wanted to focus on team present and their motivations. with pearl and marina having such conflicting ideologies during splatoon 2's finalfest, the way theyre on the same team during grandfest is perfect. it really shows that opposites can attract AND work together well!

pearl chose chaos in splatoon 2 because she seeks new experiences. shes lived rich and stable her whole life, which has made her want to seek new opportunities and pursue them with the utmost passion. its exactly this sense of yearning new things that makes her disappear from marina for days, but to come back with a new band for them to make great new songs with. all her actions are quick and in-the-moment, looking for the next great thing to experience.

marina chose order because shes happy with her current state of living. after living in an unstable and propaganda-ridden octarian society, she seeks freedom on the surface. it is when she meets pearl, and starts making music and off the hook that she is her happiest. and for her thats all she needs! what shes experiencing right now is most dear to her, because thats all she can be certain about.

they both choose present, but for completely opposite reasons. pearl believes the best things can only be made in the now, while marina is humbly content with what she has. despite the contrast, theyre both fighting for the same thing, so they fight together.

splatoon 3 is my first splatoon game. i got it knowing next to nothing about the franchise, the day after it came out. im a casual player and i have my ups and downs, but this game is so different from other shooters in terms of worldbuilding and expression that it just sticks to you. it makes me feel like ive always been a splatoon fan! grandfest made me so emotional, and i was so grateful to be there for it and experiencing it with friends. it seemed like the perfect culmination and conclusion to everything this trilogy was. (cant wait for the new games and the world we see!)

i chose team present because i am my best version of myself right now and always. i can only make changes for better in the now, although these changes are based off the past and for the future. but i wouldnt want to fight for a time im not feeling right now.
