if i hear the phrase 'gyaru is meant to be ugly' one more time im gonna snap. everytime a non gal utters any variation of that phrase an angel just dies in the most painful ways imaginable. im so glad that this narrative has started to die down a bit cause back in 2020-2022 that shit was everywhere, it was insufferable even as someone who wasnt gyaru at the time. the entire point of gyaru is to defy societal standards while also being fashionable. this is seen through the incorporation of current trends into the styles of the time, each mini era/phase of gyaru finds its own way to break the standards that often use trends of the time.

so many people fail to understand that going against beauty standards =/= ugly
no literally!! and whats ugly is subjective.like theres so many male celebrities who everyone swears up and down are the hottest people to walk the earth and when i look at them they just look mid or even, dare i say it, ugly.

Exactly!!! How do people not understand that a subculture can counter mainstream trends without wanting to intentionally be "ugly".
Anyways, Gyaru is hot asf anyways so I don't understand their argument to begin with lmao

Goshhhh I so wish I could participate in gyaru fashion, but makeup is too much of a hassle sometimes lol.
I fully agree though, it's so beautiful and really a testimony to people needing to grow up. It's like everyone is just so afraid of anything that doesn't fit their world view.
i feel like part of the reason people said this is because they kind of misinterpreted what people were saying about it breaking beauty standards and kinda just ran with it.
